HAPPY DAY, SAD DAY

Monday, June 29th, 2009

Last Thursday was a weird, weird day for me. First, I was so sad to hear that Michael Jackson died so suddenly. I have every song MJ ever put out and it’s hard to believe that he’s dead. That should just let us all know we need to tell the people around us that we love them because you never know when your time might be up.

Then, came out big trade. I was so happy that we got VC on board here. He’s been telling me for years that he wanted to play in Orlando and that me and him would be good playing together. He lives in Orlando in the summer and he’s usually working out at RDV, so we’ve played together some already on pick-up teams. Vince is one of the best three-men in the league because he can score, pass and get shots for other people.

But losing my man, Courtney, and my big brother Tony Battie and the legend, Skip To My Lou, that was tough.

I really grew close to Courtney and kind of took him under my wing. The night he was drafted, we texted for about an hour. I would always tease him that he was a rookie, but he was still a few months older than me. He’s going to be a great player in this league and it’s hard for me to think about him playing somewhere else. But in Jersey, he’ll have a bigger role now and get more shots.

Tony was like my older brother here in Orlando. He’s been here five years, the same as me. He’s always been in my ear, giving me advice on how to handle things. He was always in my corner, no matter what happened. I’m going to miss him.

Skip to My Lou helped us so much last season. He’s a legend, man!!! We wouldn’t have gotten to the Finals without you Skip. All three of those guys we traded, those were good dudes.

So I’m happy we got Vince and sad that some other guys had to go. I’m still holding out hope that we can get Turk back, too. Turk has been here for five years and I feel like I owe part of my development as a player to him. He’s one of the best passers I’ve ever played with in my career. If we can get him back we could be the team to beat next season. Without Turk, that would hurt us.

We’re trying to win a championship here right away. The NBA is a business, but sometimes it just hurts to see your teammates go.

I’m out. Hope yall’s summer is going great. I’ve been busy and about to get back in the gym and start working again. C YA WHEN I C YA.

WE’RE IN TEAM’S HEADS NOW

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

Yo, what’s up, ya’ll. Been away for awhile working on some off-season projects, but hope all of you Magic fans are having a good summer. I’ve been bouncing around some and was actually on The Late Show with Jimmy Fallon last night in NYC. We attached a video clip here if you missed it.

Now that we’ve had some time after the season ended I’m beginning to see what a really good year it was for us. We did a lot of things the y’ve never done around here before. And to make it even better, we did them when few gave us a chance.

I mean, come on, who really thought we’d win in Boston in that Game 7? Who thought we’d beat Cleveland the way we did in the East Finals? Who at the beginning of the year thought we’d get to The Finals?

Losing to the Lakers still really bothers me when I think about it because that series was much closer than some people realize. We lost two games in OT that were right there for the taking for us. We win those two games and it’s on with the Lakers. We know it, they know it and everybody knows that series could have gone a lot differently if we would have found a way to win Games 2 and 4.

But we’ll learn from those memories and we’ll be better when we’re back in the Finals next year. Losing to the Lakers will make us work even harder and be even hungrier next season.

Looks like Cleveland just traded for big Shaq in order to try and stop me next season. It’s good to see that the Magic are on the minds of some other teams now instead of it being the other way around. Maybe now after getting to the Finals the little ol’ Magic won’t be overlooked as much anymore.

Those kinds of trades like the one Cleveland made just lets us know that we have to be better next season. Those teams are gunning for us and trying to get better, so we’ve got to do the same thing.

Trust me, it’s on now. I’m already getting fired up for next season. I’m ready to get back to work.

Ya’ll take care and I’ll drop you a line later on. Holla back.

As some of y’all know, I’m a big fan of pro wrestling. The Macho Man, Hulk Hogan, and the Ultimate Warrior were some of my favorite wrestlers. Here’s video of some Magic fans impersonating some of my favorite wrestlers:
