FAN INTERACTION BEFORE GAME 2

I believe that it is really important to interact with fans. Even when I’m preparing for a big game, I always make sure to stop and sign autographs and take photos when I can.

Before game 2, I had a funny moment with a Lakers fan who said he liked me, but wanted us to lose. With a little convincing, I was able to get him to say “Go Magic”.

I also got a chance to meet American Idol winner Kris Allen. He sang the National Anthem before game 2. Check out the video below.

  16. Sandra says:

You’re very gracious. I can tell by the Family Feud clip what kind of momma you had. :) and graciousness comes from the momma.

  17. T K S says:

So we already saw how the Lakers underestimated y’all from game 1 to game 2. Going into game 3 @ home with the Lakers thinking they have already won puts you all in a great position! Go get that WIN!

  18. Ivelisse says:

My youngest borther met you & he said that you were so nice & friendly. He was like “Ivey he’s like a real person” I thought that was funny because obviously you are. but in his eyes your a superstar. He said you spoke to them about staying in school & the importance of an education. Even if this never reaches your eyes. Thank you Mr. Howard you have impacted the lives of many young males & females. One of them just happened to be the most important 12 in the world to me. Im not sure if that is whats meant when someone says ” It takes a village” But you surly helped. God Bless & Good luck with the series. Beat Kobe’s A**. Please!!!!! Go Magic!!!

  19. Eric says:

Dwight you got this! Keep your head up like you always do… Superman never fails!!

  20. VAGJ* says:

Heehee. That was funny. I kinda feel what the Lakers fan was sayin though, cause if u were playin the Pistons I woulda wanted them 2 win cause their my team but your one of my favorite NBA players + your awesome, so I wouldn’t of wanted u 2 lose. And I really like the whole magic team so… it’s confusing. N E ways GO MAGIC!! Right now it’s your time. U CAN DO ETT!!!

  21. SR says:

Way to go in Game 2 Magic!!! Let’s get the next three straight!!!!

  22. That is why your fans will support you always. Game 2 is a done deal. We need to get ready for Game 3 @ home. We are behind you Superman and the Magic team! Where can I send you a very cool Magic fan pic?

  23. Katie says:

Your such a straight up guy Dwight. Keep being a great person. We all love you back in O-Town, cant wait till game 3. GO MAGIC!! <3

  24. Bobby says:

You are the real MVP of the NBA, always smiling, great sportsmanship and when it comes down to it, you take care of business…no flops from Howard…I see many, many rings in your future and hopefully, they start piling up this year :) GO MAGIC–I WILL ALWAYS BELIEVE by the way, check your myspace email…you have a message from Clark Kent that you should definitely read…Good luck tomorrow night!!!

  25. Kristie says:

Thats awesome to hear..don’t ever change that about you because it doesnt go unnoticed. My father was a long time magic fan and almost turned his back on the magic when he say Tracy Mcgrady turn down three little kids at a WNBA game one night. I understand agents and stuff but nobody was around, he simply didn’t want to do it. So THANK YOU for caring about your fans!

  26. Mike says:

Keep the ball high when you have it in the lane, you got stripped a lot when you kept it low last game. Make the adjustment and you will win the next game. The lakers can’t stop you. Dominate!

  27. Matt says:

Goooo Magic! You can dooo eeet.

Is that guy who sang the National Anthem a midget? LOL!

  28. Andrew Spool says:

Hey Dwight. Yeah, that unenthusiastic pound was in order. I think that guy felt a little uneasy trying to Jeer you and then immediately befriend you. Funny moment. I dont really watch American Idol but i did hear about his upset pick over the ..thoer guy (idk his name). I though, as i was watching game two, that you came through in the free throw department. What were you? like 8-10 or something? I have also found that interacting with the people around you is really important; it makes the world go ’round. Thanks you for the unconventional spark you bring to the game. I’ve been rooting for the magic even when u played boston, which is my brother’s favorite team (he likes paul pierce). Game two was rough but, invision being the youngest all star to ever win a title. I know you can do it. See you on tuesday in Fla. Chance for more interaction—> (my cell) 1-845-926-2053. Send me a text man!

  29. j.bila says:

come on dwight. you gotta play with passion. The same passion Kobe play with. Stop turlnin over the ball. Keep it high and forget about the refs.

  30. Rhoda says:

omg my heart is breaking im in so much pain that was the worst loss possible cuz yall was so close. but anyways we comming back to orlando and its our home court and we gonna dominate. omg kris allen is a dwarf next to you well anyone would be standing next to you. i cant beleive that man actually said that but i cant blame him i said the same thing with the boston celtics. i love you dwight but i wanted the celtics to win but to my defense its only cuz i wanted them to beat the lakers and the cavs. and yall can do that too but only if yall really go for it people have under estimated yall already dont let them be right.

  31. Matt Baldwin says:

Man, what was up with the refs last night? I constantly watched the whole team get fouled, but no calls!

I’ve been a Magic fan since the Penny Hardaway days and I’ve been waitin for this moment for a long time! No matter what, ya’ll got love in the FLA.

Game 3 is going to be a big turnaround for the Lakers. They aint ready for SUPERMAN!

    Good luck!

  32. Chris says:

Yo Dwight! tough tough loss man, i know you know that. But now, like you said, it’s time to protect home. I’ve got faith in you guys like so many other of our fans. Just take it one game at a time, and I know you guys can bounce back. You guys are the most resilient team in the league. Take the first steps tomorrow night, and put LA in the rearview! Good luck homie! I’ll hopefully be cheering for you guys at Game 5 (thanks to stubhub.com haha)Good luck!

  33. Kelly Dixon says:

Prove everyone wrong and win this thing! I won’t give up if you don’t give up! GO MAGIC!!

  34. So I’m not the type be all crazy over a celebrity, but boy when i met you that completely changed! That guy was lucky to have met you & spoken to you , talkin’ all that shxt! ha, good luck on Game 3! i WILL be watching! promise<3.

  35. Jackie says:

Aww cool! I think Kris Allen is sweeeet.

  36. J the Drafter says:

It’s really nice that you interact with us fans. The fact that you have a blog is part of the reason I decided to start pulling for you. (The other reason is because you defeated the Celtics; I’m a Bulls fan.) I hope that you always stay connected, that you try to keep things in perspective. I’m glad that your accomplishments haven’t gone to your head.

On a more practical note, I would say that it would help your team if they practiced shooting the ball under pressure. Michael Jordan learned to shoot free throws with his eyes closed so that he could also shoot free throws in tense situations. You commented that your team tends to shoot better at home; maybe, when you have the luxury of doing long-term practice again, you and your team could practice something similar.

Something I read on practicing shooting free throws under pressure stated that there should be a penalty for failing the shots, like running laps. You guys are a shooting team, so if you’re not practicing pressure shots already, I think doing so could help.

  37. nsla says:

I am a LA fan … but I didn’t like that fan out there wanting Magic to lose. Dwight is GREAT showing GREAT SPORTSMANSHIP there trying to convince the fan to root for Magic…ya, cool guy Dwight is. DHoward certainly has some titles in his bag in the future.

  38. nsla says:

If I had faced Dwight, I would have wished him ALL THE BEST to WIN the game, even though I’m LA fan … I would definitely say “Go Magic” to Dwight.

  39. kaileydayne says:

dwight i love you. you really are a great guy and you turned me on to watching nba really. you’re so real and i feel like you are a genuine person. especially how relaxed you are throught all the crappy calls they give (or don’t give) you. you’re my boy!

  40. jolene says:

Dwight, you signed two autographs for me in Philadelphia during the first round of the playoffs. I think its great that you love and care about your fans as much as we love you! That’s great!

Good luck at home. Can’t wait for the game!!

    ~Jolene

  41. Laura Rodier says:

I can not believe I am following the NBA. It must be …MAGIC!!!! And Dwight Howard!

  42. unmoris says:

See, this is why people all around the league like you! I am an ardent Lakers fan, but I cannot tell you how much I respect your game and your CLASS. That is truly what makes a great basketball player and makes it a lot more fun to watch.

  43. Tatiana says:

Great try, It was hard to watch, when Courtney Lee miss the shot, it felt like the game for us was over, because Kobe is on fire and he want the ring. I hope u want the ring as much as he does. I’m from Orlando I never see so many different types of people all rootin for u. It’s great. So kick Laker’s a**, and show that u want this as much as they do. Bring it on Tuesday!!

  44. lady09 says:

Everyone has so much respect for you. I saw the video footage of you on TV yesterday talking to Jack and Denzel. They’re probably in awe of you just like we are. I thought that was hilarious. I think that man in the stands made the comment thinking you were going to continue to walk away. You stood your ground. I’m a little jealous I wish I was there. Guess I’ll have to wait ’til next season when the Magic come to NY or NJ to play against the Knicks or the Nets :-( Anyway…go Magic :-) .

  45. ryan aka plaguey23 says:

That’s what is all about, see DH keeps it all in perspective. We fans know its your ‘job’ to play ball but it really goes along way when the players take a few minutes to acknowledge the fans who support the teams. When I met DH in DC I was shocked at how grounded he is even though he plays above the rim. Win or lose, DH fan for life.

  46. Jane Zhang says:

    Keep Fighting!!! MAGIC…Win the game

  47. Nacrissa says:

    Dwight,

The love of Christ shines in you and I want to encourage you to be who you are inspite of the opposition you will face. You are a great athelete, and your presence and commitment to fans shows your humility and how grounded you really are. Stay focused and have fun and WIN!

  48. Dez says:

Dwight, I think a lot of Laker fans would prefer you over Kobe. When was the last time Kobe came out to show Laker fans some love before a game. Keep it up Dwight even Laker fans love you. You are a GIANT next to Kris Allen. Whoa baby. :0
