WE’RE IN TEAM’S HEADS NOW

Yo, what’s up, ya’ll. Been away for awhile working on some off-season projects, but hope all of you Magic fans are having a good summer. I’ve been bouncing around some and was actually on The Late Show with Jimmy Fallon last night in NYC. We attached a video clip here if you missed it.

Now that we’ve had some time after the season ended I’m beginning to see what a really good year it was for us. We did a lot of things the y’ve never done around here before. And to make it even better, we did them when few gave us a chance.

I mean, come on, who really thought we’d win in Boston in that Game 7? Who thought we’d beat Cleveland the way we did in the East Finals? Who at the beginning of the year thought we’d get to The Finals?

Losing to the Lakers still really bothers me when I think about it because that series was much closer than some people realize. We lost two games in OT that were right there for the taking for us. We win those two games and it’s on with the Lakers. We know it, they know it and everybody knows that series could have gone a lot differently if we would have found a way to win Games 2 and 4.

But we’ll learn from those memories and we’ll be better when we’re back in the Finals next year. Losing to the Lakers will make us work even harder and be even hungrier next season.

Looks like Cleveland just traded for big Shaq in order to try and stop me next season. It’s good to see that the Magic are on the minds of some other teams now instead of it being the other way around. Maybe now after getting to the Finals the little ol’ Magic won’t be overlooked as much anymore.

Those kinds of trades like the one Cleveland made just lets us know that we have to be better next season. Those teams are gunning for us and trying to get better, so we’ve got to do the same thing.

Trust me, it’s on now. I’m already getting fired up for next season. I’m ready to get back to work.

Ya’ll take care and I’ll drop you a line later on. Holla back.

  5. rebecca says:

I have to laugh at this because you are so right…I just put a status up on my facebook at the crack of dawn when I found out. I think it’s hilarious that they think Shaq can stop you. I believe it’s time for retirement and YOU you’re a beast and still in your prime!!!

  11. Darlena says:

I think its cool that they realize that they needed to step their game up to hang with you. It should make you feel good as well. I am confiedent that that trade will not make a difference and you will beat them just as you did before because you know how to win and you are amazing. People underestimated you before. Now they are forced to overestimate you. So, on that note…Good stuff Superman. Get Emmmmmm.

  12. Gabby says:

Oh man. Eat Shaq alive and let him know that you are the big man in the NBA.

  13. Dracc says:

well dwight all i can say is.. when your in the post stop bringing the ball to your waist keep it up high and dunk over everyone.. Bishop Todd Hall said hello and hope to see you at conference in orlando this fall.. still a fan sir.. still a fan

  14. Amelia S says:

I was stunned with the Shaq trade. Hope it turns out to be a good idea for them because I just done see Shaq In His prime anymore.
But Im All Magics.. All day everyday..
Hopefully I get to see the good ol Pistons Making a comeback next season.. I Love em’ too..!!
    Keep Practicing DH!
And keep up the good work!

  15. Brittany says:

The Shaq trade was no suprise, I know it will only make our team more motivated to go all the way! I am looking forward to seeing the great things out of you and the entire Magic team! I will be rooting you on!!

  16. ACollins says:

So saw you on Jimmy Fallon last nite . . . that is my fav late night show cause (1) I luv “The Fallon” (2) The Roots as the house band! So when I saw that you were going to be on it just added to my excitement for the show! So loved your charm and charisma on the show! Freaking amazing! Glad that you are enjoying your offseason and trying to get better for next . . . it will be awesome! I do luv luv luv how teams are trying to find ways to answer you guys for next year . . . we really did prove them wrong and now they know that they have to come hard aganist us next year because we will get even better! Yeah I definitely don’t think that people realized how differently the Lakers series could of gone, but it is okay because everything happens for a reason and it will make next seasons victory even sweeter!

As far as the Shaq, Cleveland, Lebron thing . . . when I heard that I wasn’t suprised but don’t worry about Shaq I seriously don’t think that he will be a threat! I mean yes he is another big man but he doesn’t have half the speed as you do! So that does not worry me much . . . plus he is getting and old and just needs to stick to his “rapping” and twittering which he does so well (*as I roll my eyes*)! I will shut up now but not before telling you how excited I am for bball season next year and the endless possibilties of the Magic!

So unitl next time Peace & Love and also Hugs & Kisses ~ MUAH!

  17. Bianca says:

Dwight, work hard. Youre one of the best centers and a great defender. I hope to see you and the Magic team in the finals. (:

    PS-Work on your freethrows. ;D

  18. tom says:

Dwight, don’t get too cocky buddy. Your in no one’s head right now except your own – don’t let it get too big cuz I seriously doubt the little ol’ Magic will be making much noise without Hedo Turkoglu next year. And oh yeah, have you developed any post moves yet this summer, because you were absolutely EXPOSED during the Finals vs. the Lakers! LOL until further notice, I think you should be known as “SuperBoy.”

  19. Jeremy Graves says:

thanks for your view on things i am glad this fires you up because i said the same thing, clev is only doing this to stop superman! he is old and slow and the cavs are young and fast, i am not that great at math but young and fast does not equal old and slow. so excited for next year and even if ppl over look us again, like they probably will, who cares lets show them how the quite guy in the background is the one who you really have to worry about!!

  20. Bill Russell says:

Talk talks a big game, but can’t back it up.
    You show em youngin’!

  21. Bill Russell says:

*Shaq talks big game, but he can;t back it up.

  22. Ameelicious says:

I cant understand the trade -shaq is not in his prime anymore. But i guess the Cavs got a reality check-.. LJ is overrated so they need a little back up to do some more tackling.
    Like i previously said..
    Im routing for the Magis..
And Hopefully I say My pistons next year, all ready for action!!
Keep up the good work Dwight!

  23. CP says:

SHAQ DONT NEVER TRY TO STOP NOBODY HE DOES STOP PEOPLE…CAUSE THATS WHAT HE DO

  24. chad says:

shaq had one of the best seasons hes had in years and past alot of people up on the all time scoring list and he shot 61% from the field if thats old i want that and lebron is not overrated league mvp led his team to the best record ha ha dwight howard choked in the finals

  25. Michelle says:

    LET’S GO MAGIC!!!!

  26. man we got this. Youre the new diesel bro. Just keep your hands high and go straight to the bucket and we got this. keep it up and great showing on the Fallon show last night.

  27. jordan says:

  28. Remmi Martina Goyens says:

OK! I like the way you said that “They had to bring in somebody to try an stop you” Continue to work hard and your game will only improve. I want the TITLE just as bad as you do. This is my CITY…Ill share it with you!…Let’s Go Hard.

Lots of love ya way Big Homie. :)

  29. Michael in Ocoee says:

Go get ‘em D12! Hey, did you catch this article? What do you think?

    http://www.hoopsworld.com/Story.asp?STORY_ID=12965

How cool would it be if the guy that torched Shaq in the Finals helped you help us win a title???!!!

    Article says:
…If Howard needs to talk to one person over this summer of his discontent, it is Hakeem Olajuwon, who could take him to the next level.

You look at Howard’s long, lean, muscular body and you can see a 21st –century version of Hakeem the Dream. You watch Howard aggressively chase down rebounds and loose balls and challenge any penetrator into the lane and it’s Olajuwon Redux – but only at one end of the floor. Olajuwon had progressed from being a mere dunking machine before he left the University of Houston and joined the Rockets.

If I’m Howard, I’m making phone calls, e-mails, tapping out text messages, sending up smoke signals, whatever it takes to make contact with Olajuwon at his home in Amman, Jordan. The fact is that Olajuwon does return to Houston every summer and he has been willing to tutor eager students…

  30. Kimberly says:

Not that Shaq will be much of a challenge to you, given his age and your speed. I loved every minute of this season and I can’t wait for next year. Hope you have an amazing summer, big D!!

  31. Lana says:

Shaq needs to retire….he ain’t got nothing on you babes!!

  32. Melo says:

    Damn u r sexy

  33. Tony Fig says:

Dwight. You don’t know how rough it is for me. I’m a huge, ridiculous Magic fan and my wife is a huge, ridiculous Lakers fan. We met in Los Angeles 22 years ago. As you know, the Lakers have been winning all through the years and I had to hear from her everytime. So this past finals was the most exciting for me. Although I was crushed when we lost, I’m very excited and proud of how you all played and acted throughout the playoffs and finals. You are bringing back what we lost before in the 90s. But now, because of your leadership, this will be the best team of all time.

  34. CJ says:

Great Job this season. Now next season you comeback with a short range jumper and keeping the ball high and we can win it all!
    GO MAGIC!

  35. Saum Sharifi says:

We know you guys should have won the finals…but its ok. B/c next year, you guys will be even BETTER. I believe Orlando will be NBA champions in 2010. Go DWIGHT!

  36. Sheree says:

D-Train they can try but they cannot stop a train, your too much for them

  37. Brown, Mike says:

    Magic,

You al had a great season, no doubt about it. If you would have shown up in the finals you def could have had your ring by now. I am not so sure whats in store for next year because turk is going to opt out of his contract. Van Gundy, Mr.chokeartist himself needs to be fired. Dwight step your game up and keep the ball above your head. You do the same exact move everytime. Whats wrong with you? You are a great player no doubt about that but stop letting people get to you. Play your game and hopefully that will be enough for you and the magic to win next year. I like that magic but if turk leaves and van gundy is still your coach you have no chance at the finals.

PS- You surely wont beast shaq next year, and Lebron single handedly shitted on “ya’ll” numerous times. Stop effin fouling so damn much too!!!

    PEACE!!!

  38. Char Allen says:

2010 ….Magic’s gonna come back with force! Go Magic!

  39. Phillip H says:

Next season, I think we will have even better superman (you), healthier Nelson, much more improved Lee. If you guys all stay healthy and Magic retain Hedo, there will be nothing stopping the Magic. Shaq’s not going to be able to contain the real superman. The difference is that you can fly and Shaq can’t. He was never able to fly like you do even in his prime. So to me, you are the only real superman. Thanks for the great season!

  40. oleary says:

pratice your free throws dont look like shaq again next year.

  41. sebastian B says:

Shaq can’t stand a chance, you might be required to gain a little weight to take him, but he’s old and heavy, your too agile for him. No sweat. Now we just need to step it up on LeBron

  42. Susan says:

The Cavs traded for Shaq, aka, the Big Flopper…

Oh well, he’s trying to go out with a bang and he thinks he’ll find a place in Cleveland. You think Lebron is going to throw him the ball? Maybe, at first. But he’ll discover what Kobe knew, that Shaq is all about Shaq.

And I was Shaq’s fan here when he played in Orlando. I even wore his number in high school. But, it’s funny, before 32, I was wearing 12 !

  43. Craig from Otown says:

As we all know Shaq left Orlando in 1996. People in Orlando don’t like him. He lives here in the off season.

We have moved on from Shaq. We have Superman now. Dwight is a class act, unlike Shaq. Dwight will stay in Orlando for a long time. Dwight will win titles here.

Shaq is old and at the end of his career. I look forward to seeing Dwight school the old fellow

  44. clara says:

Hey maybe even LeBron realized he can’t do it all by himself. Let’s just hope that workhorse doesn’t have to pull a diesel around too. lol

  45. Candice says:

awww well, it looks like the magics are going to have to work really hard, all you have to do is practice your free throws and you’ll be just fine you already know how to block you already know how to dunk just try not to get in any fouls and really really really practice your free throws good luck Dwight even though I know you’re not gonna need it with God by your side =)

  46. Ms Lady says:

Dwight I am honestly a Laker fan, but you guys-MAGIC-are not to be played with here the east. I hate it for them celtics and them cavs next season. Shaq still has game, but I doubt if he will be able to stop the new and improved SUPERMAN.
By the way, I admire you off and on the court because you are such a positive person. Continue to strive for the best.

  47. Kerry says:

I am so excited for next season. I can’t wait. As for Shaq, I don’t think the Cavs completely thought this through. Shaq plays by pretty much staying in the lane, pushing people around. LeBron plays by driving in the lane and charging (but not getting called for it) and going to the line. Everyone needs to clear out for that to be done. So basically, one of them is going to be taken out of the offense on each possession. Doesn’t seem to bright for me. GO MAGIC!!!

  48. MBJ says:

Well if you guys had won the title that may be true. The truth is there is one winner and 29 losers. I don’t think the Cavs made the trade to stop you solely (2 Cor. 12:5 and 6). The Lakers did a great job without Shaq on their roster. I think the Cavs made the first of many deals to make sure LBJ sticks around beyond next year. Smart teams try to get better every year and don’t build around the chances of meeting certain teams. If you don’t have Turk, Rafer, and Gortat next season you won’t be a contender anyway. I think you need to concentrate on that.

  49. Jude says:

Wow, I really like how you summed up the Shaq trade making it about you. But hey, good luck next season.

  50. Jude says:

Wow, I really like how you summed up the Shaq trade making it about you. But hey, good luck next season. Let’s just pray that winning a championship ring is one of God’s lessons for you. God bless. :)
