Preseason is finally over!

Hey world!!! Finally, preseason is over and now the games start counting for real. We’re so ready for that. We were the only team in the NBA to go undefeated in the preseason, but they don’t give out any championships for that. It’s nice, but we want bigger things than that.

It’s just the preseason, but I already see how teams are going to play me this season. Against Indy the other night, they kept running two and three guys at me and fouling me every time that I got deep position. They aren’t going to let me dunk the ball.

It’s tough, because you’ve got people hanging on you, pulling at you, slapping at you, whatever, the whole game. You try to stay calm, but sometimes you just want to react. But you’ve got to do what’s best for the team.

I think I’ve just got to play through it. Coach Van Gundy, he allows guys to do the same thing in practice, so I’ve just got to get used to it.

Of course, one way to keep them from fouling me so much is doing a better job of hitting my free throws. Trust me ya’ll, I’m working hard on it. It’s the one thing I put the most work into this summer, hitting 500 a day.

I made seven out of 10 from the line Friday night when we beat the Hawks, so I know I can make them. The key for me is to just keep my confidence up and not think so much. I’m trying to keep a clear mind at the line.

And maybe if I start making a bunch of free throws, they will stop hacking me so much.

Ya’ll be good and we’ll see you Wednesday night for the season-open against Philly. They gave us fits last year in the playoffs, so we’ll have to be ready for the Sixers.

You guys did great during the preason..So that means you will only get better. Especially with your free throws, just be calm and have confidence and tune out all that noise..It can especially be hard when your on the road and the crowd wants you not to make it..But when your at home its better…Gonna be a long season but just take one game at a time…and Ill be rooting for ya…

  4. Amourra says:

I wanna see you playing til the end of June, and hugging that trophy. Good luck to you and the rest of the magic although you wont need it, hopefully all your hard work at the line and in the off season pays offf for you this year. Make it happen!!

  5. Charmayne says:

Freethrows are 99.9 % mental! Do u remember Nick Anderson, a great freethrow shooter till he missed a crucial shot. If the mind can work to the negative, then imagine what will happen if u train ur mind to positively affect ur shot! Believe in urself.

How is Anthony Johnson taking the acquisition of J-Will? I saw some of the starters’ reactions to J-Wills’ play and it seems that he is winning you all over.

  17. Spiraea says:

Best of luck to you this season, Dwight! I’m not a Magic fan per say but I believe you guys are the most underrated team in the NBA by far. Even making it to the Finals last year doesn’t seem to have put much belief in you guys and I really can’t understand why. But I think people need to be ready to be shock and awed by the Magic once again this year!

  18. Rach♥ says:

  34. Ken Shapiro says:

    Dwight-
I know your goal for this season is 70% from the line. I can help you get there!! I gave you a proposal when I worked your camp last year and I’m very serious about what I do. I guarantee results and I know exactly what you’re doing wrong and how to fix it. Contact me and let’s talk.

  35. Sportsmine says:

I am a big magic fan from day one living in Tampa. I remember when you were about to be drafted. I remember reading an article on you about your goals and what you wanted to accomplish in the NBA. One of your goals was to be the greatest ever. I’ve notice each year you have set goals ie. being the league leader in rebounds one year, leading the league in blocks and ironically this is the same year you wanted to be the DPOY. All of those goals came true. I say all of this to say, the free throws should be taking with the same confidence as all of your other goals. You want to shoot 70% from the line then you can do it. It is in you to be great and I have been saying that since your first day in the league. The Lord helps those who helps themselves and its obvious you have been working on getting better from the foul line. Believe in yourself and always believe in God and the rest will take care of itself. No pressure because you already know you have it in you. Just go out there and do it and always DOMINATE!!! God Bless

  36. J the Drafter says:

Hey, Dwight. Don’t hold on to past failures. Parts of growing as a player is getting up after getting smacked in the mouth. Keep working on the free throws. You’ll continue to get better. Using your jumper would help get you into shooting rythym, though.
