What up, worrrrrrrld!!! We’re getting ready to start our season Wednesday night against Philly, the same team we played in the first round of the playoffs last spring. The Sixers always play us tough because they like to push the tempo, but I like our chances.
I wanted to talk today not about basketball, but instead you the fans. Ya’ll mean everything to me and I enjoy interacting with you so much. I try to tell people all the time that there’s more to me than “Dwight the Basketball Player.’’ I’m just a regular dude and that’s why when I talk to people out and about I like to talk about other stuff than just basketball.
Twitter, Facebook and Superfan.com have been great because they are new ways for me to interact with the fans and let them know that it’s not just about playing basketball for me. I love being around people and I’ve tried to show some appreciation to the people who follow me as a player on Twitter, Facebook, Superfan and here on my website.
We’re actually flying my one millionth follower and her son to the season opener against Philly. I’ve also bought lunch and some copies of NBA Live 10 for some of my followers who could find me in Orlando and Atlanta during the summer, and given away free copies of NBA Live 10 on Twitter, Facebook, and Superfan to fans that could answer Dwight trivia questions. I wish I could do similar things in every city that I go to and for every fan that follows me.
I always thought the “Where’s Dwight?’’ idea was a really good one and I had a lot of fun doing it. I still hope to do it more. The couple of times that I did it, it was craaaaaazy how many people actually showed up.
Hopefully I’ll get to do that a little more with the fans around here so that I can keep on interacting with them. I’m just always looking for ways to give back to the fans and let them know that I appreciate all of their love and their support.
I like having these conversations with fans because I want to chat with them and find out what’s going on. And I really want people out there to try and get to know me for the person that I am instead of just the guy they see out on the basketball court.
Twitter, Facebook, Superfan.com and here at my website are just great avenues for me to connect with people.
So you guys keep the tweets, facebook posts, superfan posts coming, and blog comments coming. I get more enjoyment out of this than ya’ll realize. So you guys take care and I’ll see some of you down at the arena Wednesday night when he get after Philly.

Dwight you are the man! I’m the biggest Blazers fan in the world (I live in Oregon) but the Magic are my second favorite team because of you. I love watching you play but the reason you’re my favorite player is because you always give credit to the Lord for all of your accomplishments.

I saw u in a club in Jackson, MS and I was amazed 2 see how humble u were. It’s very rare 2 see a person in your position have such a great attitude about people and life. I was never a big Magic fan but that made me a huge Dwight fan.

I so appreciate the “person” you are and not just the player (I do appreciate that too!). It makes me so proud to be a Magic fan and know what great people we have on our team – not just athletes. I met you last year and showed you an article in the Orlando sentinel about my Crossover Christian Youth Basketball ministry in Deltona, you said that maybe someday you could come out one thursday night and speak to the kids, and that would be awesome. I know you are a very busy man, and we understand that, so if you can great but no worries. I also do a surfing ministry,have you ever caught a wave? I do free surf lessons for the kids and a bible message when we go, you should give it a try, that would be a great pic of you riding a wave. I also want to challenge you as a role model for Jesus to keep sharing your faith, and giving the glory to God first,when we lose or win we praise God. Dwight last year was fun getting to the finals but I know you guys will not be happy with that this year. I kind of feel that if we don’t get home court in the playoffs all the way through, we might suffer the same fate. I know you guys have the talent to get that #1 record in the league, but it will take focus at a VERY high level night in and night out to get it done. I know how badly you want it and trust that you will lead this team to where we want to be. Don’t take any game for granted and you guys will be the ones lifting the trophy come June. Don’t let that taste of defeat leave your mind and let’s get it done THIS YEAR! Good luck to you and the team, I’ll be there tonight rooting you guys on!
