A really frustrating night!!!

Yo, what up, world??? Not sure how many of you guys saw the game last night in Detroit, but let me tell you that was one to forget. We lost for the first time all season, the first time since the Finals, I guess. But it was how we lost that frustrated me the most.

I was on the floor for 16 minutes and fouled out!!! Let me say that again: 17 minutes and six fouls!!! How can that be, ya’ll? It was crazy. They called me for a charge on a flop, a push off when the defender was on me and two fouls on blocked shots.

Man, 16 minutes is a lifetime low for me I think. I haven’t played that little in a game since I was 10 years old in pee-wee ball. It was crazy from the start of the game all the way to when I fouled out with about 4 minutes to play.

What really bothers me is they are letting guys hammer me at one end of the floor, yet I’m being called for everything. All of those hits take a toll on my body after a while.

As for my shoulder, it’s really sore right now and it really hurts when guys are hanging on me and pulling on my arms. The trainers have done all of the tests and they say everything is fine, but it’s still hurting me a little. They said my shoulders are plenty strong enough around the injury, but it’s like a bruise and will take some time to get fully better.

The game in Detroit was ugly, but the good thing about the NBA is we get another crack at it tonight at home against Phoenix. It’s not like we were going to go 82-0 – although it did cross my mind a few times!!! We’re not going to be perfect every night, and I guess understanding that helps me deal with some of the frustration I’ve been dealing with.

See you guys in Orlando at the arena tonight. And the rest of you out there across the country and around the world, take care. Holla back at ya boy.

  4. Matt says:

Dwight.. i understand your frustrations! believe me, last night i was watching the game while my mom was asleep in the next room and I couldnt help but yell at the tv. A good amount of those calls were horrible! I hate to ever even blame it on the refs, but after that last night, u cant hlep it. They decided the outcome of the game, not the players. Hope your shoulder feels alright tonight, we gotta give PHX their first loss!!

  5. Melissa says:

Let’s come back tonight and get those frustrations out on Phoenix! Forget last night! I agree it’s one to forget!

  6. kritunja says:

Awww, it was a bad night for u and the team but its not the end. It’s only one loss to a team that pretty much cheated with the B.S. calls that were made but u guys are still awesome. You still got my support, be easy and chill.

  7. Erick says:

I saw the game I cant imagine how frustrating it must have been for you. Just try to do better tonight and like you said it was one to forget!

  8. Laterica (ridaaaa) says:

  9. Remmi Martina Goyens says:

Ok! I thought we couldve went 82-0 too. Its still all good..I was watching the game like ..DAMN..”Talk to David Stern or something they ant keep hacking you..Anywho lets just go all the way in tonight..Next up Suns..Lets get it!

  10. Darth Magic says:

Hey Man, tough night all around. We couldn’t have ur back but u can bet us fans are as pissed as hell after lastnight. I’m sure some guys in grey made money lastnight. hope u heal up soon and sink the suns tonight. God bless.

p.s. I hope u don’t get fined or suspended either; you know what i’m talking about :-)

  11. Adam says:

Was BS calls all night, Beat those suns tonight!

  12. Michael says:

    Dwight,
That game was terrible but with all the beatings you took, i feel safe saying you are the best in the league! Have a great game i’ll be going for you and the magics the whole way!!!

  13. Nakeesha says:

Hey Dwight, don’t let one moment in time stop you from seeing the big picture. You know what you are working for, you want the title, the ring. You are such a phenomenal athlete. It’s amazing that you are so young but many your age have accomplished this feat. Do your best to be your best. Everything else will work it’s self out. If I have my way, I will see you play this season. I expect the excellence. You have already set the standard.

Handle your business at against Phoenix at home tonight. Lovely day.

  14. Joe R. says:

    Dwight,

Wow, I have never in my life seen such a blatantly bias job of officiating. For me, watching it took me from thinking that it was strange, to feeling annoyed, to being mad, to feeling outright disgust, and finally…towards the end…I couldn’t do anything but laugh. It was ridiculous and I’m sorry that you, and the rest of the team, were put through that.

I know that it must be just about impossible to get into any kind of rythm when the refs blow the whistle every time you breathe, but the other team gets to pound on you without consequence. However, you guys still should’ve won last night. How you guys managed to not only stay close, but hold leads with the way everything was going was pretty incredible, but, the team’s love affair with the 3 point shot, even when it hadn’t fallen all night long, and the untimely turnovers at the end clinched it for Detroit. I wish you guys would’ve been more aggresive taking the ball to the hole when it became obvious that no one had the hot hand from outside. Then again, just about everytime one of you did try to drive, you were called for a charge or some other nonsense.

Oh well, it’s one game and it’s over. I know you guys will bounce back tonight. Hey, 81-1 is still within reach! Seriously, if you guys play your game offensively, that being inside-out, not outside-outside, and bring max effort on the defensive end, no one can beat you. Good luck tonight and God bless you.

  15. #1 magic fan in l.a. says:

dwight, if you guys played boston right now, y’all would lose…youre defense is terrible right now and your effort is half assed at best. You said you worked on your offensive game during the summer, but you look THE SAME TO ME. The same. wheres your jumper?? wheres them post moves?? i dont see it..you still scorin off pick n rolls and putbacks….. Read Morethis is your 5th year in the league and i dont see any offensive progress… is 21.0ppg gonna be your peak offensive average?? when can they dump the ball down to you every play and say, “dwight get us a bucket”…NEVER. Thats why you cant be compared to shaq because he’ll dominate you 1-on-01… dwight @ 23< shaq@ 23 BY A LONG SHOT…

    Shaq averaged 29, 13, 3 dimes and 3 blocks at 23

  16. Zitane says:

    Yo Man,

Yeah dude, bad ones will come. BUT HEY, if anyone can climb over that type of stuff, it’s you dude! i love your game, i love your thought about everything like helping out. you keep that stuff balanced and you’ll leave your mark dude. I’d love for nash to match franchise record starts (i think he got done last year), but i’m sure they’ll recover from their loss to you guys!!! HELL YEAH!!

  17. Chizy says:

lJust like Yoda said..”Do or Do not there is no Try”…we just have to keep trying to make it “Do win”!!!
make no difference !!! We are always here for you and you guys!!! Go Magic!!!

  18. Kevin Kevaroo says:

Watched on FSLsports last night. Officiating was God awful, sure you guys didn’t play your best basketball but how can you when the officials don’t allow you to get in a rhythm. David Stern really needs to step up and do something about this. See ya at the Arena tonight!

  19. Kris says:

Bro, I was watching the game at home and was flipping out!! All those calls were garbage. Yours, Gortat’s, and JJ had some bad ones too. It was just a bad night, but I know you guys will bounce back. You got some love out here in Tampa and I’m going to make it to one of the local games this year. Good luck tonight.

  20. Ryan the Magic Fan says:

Dwight, you are a better man than me to take all those hits you do and not respond night after night. It’s good to see that Jameer got ya back the last two games but your other teammates need to do the same and start being just as physical on the other teams stars.

  21. Phillip says:

    Dwight,
I watched the whole game. We got a raw deal. Personal fouls were 30 – 13 and the Detroit had a lot more than twice as many free throws we had. It looked like we were play 5 on 8. I was hoping for 82-0. Now I am still hoping for 80 win season for the first time in NBA history. I’ve watched almost every magic game from the first season. This is the best team ever and you are the most dominating player ever for the Magic and will be for NBA before everything is said and done. I like your perspective. We have a chance to redeem ourselves tonight. As always I will be rooting for you and Magic. I’ll pray for your physical and mental health through this.

  22. all the way manz says:

Its really crazy last night. But i believe you guys will bounce back stronger! win this game at home dwight! imma cheering you on!

  23. Chris says:

Its dangerous having guys hanging off you and hitting you all the time, I dont understand why the league is allowing this to happen night after night. People say “Oh, Dwight can take it, he’s 6′11″ and 265lbs!” but they fail to mention the guys hitting you are 7′0″ and 250lbs too! Its BS man and I’m not surprised you are sick of it.

  24. Rachakaloislane says:

I can’t say that I’m sorry that you lost last night, I live less than 25 mins. from the Palace. Piston fan for life! But I’m also a Magic fan too and most importantly, a Dwight D. Howard Jr. fan-addict! lol I love to watch you play, so I was torn between to lovers. On 1 hand, either have you in the game and possibly lose or have you on that bench an win the game? That was an AAGGHH! moment for me. When I saw you hit that floor and grab your shoulder like you were hurt, I was ready to kick somebodies tail on MY team! lol, but no joke! There are only 4 times in the whole reg. season that I will not be rooting for your team. I think you know when they are. Another 1 of them is coming up this Friday. Don’t forget to drink your milkshakes (2 of them) 1 hour before the game Friday! lol An just take out all of that frustration on Phoenix tonight! Many more victories to come your way my friend! In basketball and in life! Peace and Love ;)

  25. Roy Wagner says:

Hey DH, if you has not fouled out we all know the outcome would have been different.
Some players in the league you can’t breath around without a foul being called unfortunately you are not one of them.
Stay strong and I will be in the arena tonight court side. GO MAGIC!!!!!

  26. Dwight they know how good you are so they are trying to get you out of the way.Keep your composure. You are doing great.Feel better soon.

  27. Jake VK says:

Hey my man just thought I’d let ya know I watched the game n couldn’t believe some of the calls goin Detroit’s way. That offensive foul at the end of the game? Really? Man keep doing your thing and don’t lose your cool you guys had some T fouls that cost you a couple points. But we all know the NBA is staged and the officials gotta listen to their bosses telling them who is spose to win. Good luck hope your shoulder feels well and we all appreciate what you been doin in the community!

  28. Philippa says:

Hey jus think of it as being the first and maybe the only lost for this month..but hopefully all goes well for tonight and i hope your shoulders feels better soon.

  29. Budd Hudson says:

Ayye Dwight i can see where your frustration is coming from but you have to realize your in the NBA there aint no easy buckets and its not a walk in the park..You aint the only one that gets fouled and the refs dont call it im sure everyone in the league can relate to that…You just need to relax and focus on the game…Play Smart Work Hard!

  30. Jen says:

Hey Dwight. All us basketball players wish we could have a perfect season, but better it happened now and early then to have happened at the end of the season. All you can do is learn and see how much of an impact role you play on the team. We need you out on the court! Refs will always be refs. Keep being aggressive thats all you can do. As far as your shoulder it’s good to hear it nothing major! Pain is mental, focus on the feeling you get when you dominate in the paint :) Keep ya head up. Good luck tonight!

  31. Jason says:

    BAWWWWWWWWWWWWWW. that’s all i read

  32. mike kelso says:

    twitter.com/luvinso
dwight im from detroit and i watch the game beileve it or not i turned it off when you fouled out cuz it wasen’t important to me no more
oh well i will be watching your stats

  33. DeLaGatty says:

    keep your head up superman.
tonights gonna be a good good night…

  34. RoLa says:

I saw the game online last night and 5 of those 6 calls were bogus. Hacking and getting you frustrated is the only way teams can handle you. Just gotta keep that calm face on and shrug it off. Easier said then done, I know. They can slow down Supaman but they can’t stop’em. Get you’re revenge tonight Dwight. I’ll be watchin and crankin that No Ceilings mixtape. Much love for the Magic from Daytona. Show out!

  35. sweetcommunion5~Andrena says:

Who do the refs answer to in the league? Clearly there was some favoritism going on at your expense! We wont dwell on it. Its the challenges in life that pushes us to greatness. Have a great game 5 tonight at Amway.
~BTW: Im praying for your shoulder and physical health
    **Andrena

  36. [...] it up to being “one of those nights” Dwight has expressed his frustration via his official website: I was on the floor for 16 minutes and fouled out!!! Let me say that again: 17 minutes and six [...]

  37. Bryan S says:

I feel your frustration Dwight, it sucks. I watched the game and could NOT believe what I saw. But it’s alright. No one can stop you. Next time you guys face the Pisstons, blow them out. Orlando can be 81 – 1

  38. NbaSpectator says:

    Dude your a beast.

No doubt the beast center in the league. But damn man, yall jacked up 38 three’s what did yall think was gone happen!

Jameer tackled Will Bynum without trying to go after the ball, didn’t nobody say anything about that.

The refs let yall play ball, yall was hacking too.

I’ma fan of the NBA, but last night yall just got beat.

    Back to business 2night.

P.S. Jacking up 30 plus 3’s a game won’t get you that ring you want.

Can’t blame everything on the Officials.

IF that be the case, just retire. It’s a MANS game.

    Much Luv.

    Peace

  39. Phillip says:

I could definitely tell you were frustrated after that fall in the first half. The cameras were a lil’ close to say the least when walked back to the bench. No biggie though tonight we got Phoenix. GO MAGIC!!

  40. Robwiki says:

That game was an absolute joke! The thing that really pisses me off is no one is pointing out the foul differential, NO ONE! Last night you guys had to play both Detroit and the Refs and almost pulled it off! Don’t dwell on it and take it to Phoenix tonight. DEFEND OUR HOUSE!

  41. darkzero1 says:

The only way the Pistons could beat the Magic was to flop all over the court, bear hug Dwight when he was gonna dunk, & pay the refs off.

  42. Dub to the O says:

Dwight, Believe me, I wanted to break my TV watching that game. We saw what those refs did to you and Marcin. It sucks that you can’t speak out about the officiating of this game which was as bad as the officiating against Cleveland in game 2 of the conference finals. I mean it didn’t “seem” like they wanted Detroit to win. The officials wanted Detroit to win “Period”.

I’ll have that recorded in my brain for friday when you have your rematch. Be ready to kick ass and as much I know someone gets tempted to knock someone on they arse with a right hand, you gotta resist.

  43. Alicia Jackson says:

I saw the game last night and it was crazy All you did was just stand there and hold your hands up and they called fouls on you..it was ridiculous, you was pushed to the floor and everything. I felt your pain last night when you couldnt play the way you wanted and help your team win that game..You cant win them all you started off great including the preseason and I never heard of any team that ever won 82-0…that was a great goal to achieve though.

Get your revenge on Friday and beat the Pistons at home, dont you all play them again on Friday in Orlando. Just regroup and get Phoenix, they have a perfect record so you have to beat the Suns. Its along season you have 78 more games to play so dont get to upset about one game…

Right you want to stay healthy but its frustrating when all these guys are hacking you and dont get upset set and hit back it only makes things worse and you could be ejected from the game..your team needs you and just stick it out..Its all about competition and some guys play dirty….Meer got your back that was funny….

Unfornately, I live in another state so I cant watch u all tonight, but Ill check in through the live chat on the Magic Page from Time to Time and see how you all are doing.

We as your fans love you and we enjoy your blogs…

  44. Josh says:

It’s so frustrating watching games like that, i couldn’t imagine if i was playing. If i was out there i would have gone Tim Hardaway on them and start throwing moniters on the court playing the replays of Kwame freakin Brown flopping and getting the call on the all NBA center.

  45. Laura Miller says:

I agree with you 100%. Like I said in an earlier post-it doesn’t matter how big you are- a foul is a foul. They beat you up at will, with NO CALLS!! But Dwight, you even breathe on the opponent and you are called. Not Fair!!
Actually I’d have to say you all played pretty good 5 on 8.
Anyway-you can handle them on Friday at home. See you tonight-Good Luck!!

  46. bg says:

You’re just used to getting superstar calls. For once they don’t go your way, and somehow it’s someone else’s fault you lost?

  47. Kyle says:

I was yelling at my TV lol. I would like to see how many games michael jordan would win if he played 16 min a game. Its almost to the point where I don’t want to watch the NBA period b/c that game last night wasn’t basketball it was ‘lets see how we can cheat’. Flopping needs to be punished w/ technical fouls cause that is garbage and too many ppl make careers out of it…cough cough chris bosh cough cough, would that guy average more than 10 pts w/o free throws?

  48. Jason R says:

Tim donaghy got out of jail the same day the terrible reffing occured on your game 4 in Detroit… coincidence? Would love for the NBA to do an investigation.

You have to beat the teams you are playing AND the reffs – you really are superman.

  49. Chase Mathew says:

Cant come to the game tonight D man, but want you to know you have my full support. Give Phoenix there first loss and lets get this thing back on track. I feel im responsible for the loss last night for not doing whats right and supporting you guys enough and betting the teams championship chances. Im sorry! Lets start over clean and get the W tonight D.
