Still trying to get over that loss!!!

Heeeeeeeeeyyyyyyyyyyyyy wwwwwwooooooooorrrrrrrrrrllllllldddddd!!!

Well, I don’t know about you guys out there, but I’m nowhere near over losing that playoff series to the Hawks. It’s going to take me a long, long time to get over losing in the first round. I really thought we had the kind of team to do something special in the playoffs and I went in with really high hopes, but I guess it just wasn’t meant to be. That doesn’t make it any easier to take and it’ll be much later this summer before I can stop thinking about losing to the Hawks.

To tell you the truth, I could care less about even watching the playoffs now. I hardly even watched any of the games this weekend because it’s just too painful to think about us being done for the year. It was that way last year when we lost to the Celtics in the East Finals. I didn’t even watch the Finals with the Lakers and Celtics at all. It just killed me thinking about how we should have still been playing.

I think the thing that bothers me the most is that we didn’t play hard consistently against the Hawks. We didn’t play hard every night the way that the Hawks did. We talked about it all year and it showed in the playoffs. That’s why we’re done. It’s not about making shots or missing free throws. The team that won this series played harder, and that’s why the Hawks are moving on and we’re not.

The year we went to the Finals we played harder than everybody else. We weren’t the best team or the most talented team in the NBA, but we played hard. But we could never get that every night against Atlanta. We were always falling way behind and having to play catch up. You just can’t win big series like that.

People started asking me about my contract right after we lost even though I have a contract through next season. It’s not like I was thinking about that stuff right away, and really my answer is going to be the same next season: I’m a member of the Magic, I love the Magic and I’m just focused on trying to bring a title to the city of Orlando.

Magic fans in Orlando and everywhere else deserve a championship. Our fans have been so faithful and have always supported everything that I have done in my seven years in the league, and I’d love nothing more than to get this thing right and bring a championship to Orlando next season.

I want to thank the people out there who have created some websites trying to keep me in Orlando. That means a lot to me seeing that outpouring of love. I’ll never be able to thank each and every one of you Magic fans out there, but your cheers and support keep me driving and pushing to better myself so we can win a title here.

My plans are to get better this summer. I worked extremely hard last summer, making 1,000 shots a day and living in the weight room. All season, I could see how much that hard work paid off with the growth in my game. Now, I’m going to work even harder because I want to be the best player in the game and I want my team in a position to play for a championship next spring.

I also want to thank everybody out there for growing their beards out late in the season. I was amazed how quickly “Fear the Beard” caught on in Orlando and it just goes to show you how passionate Magic fans are when it comes to supporting their team. I was hoping that we’d keep winning in the playoffs and my whiskers would get sooooo long, but it didn’t happen. I’ve got to admit to you guys that I had my barber clean my face up that very next day after we lost to the Hawks because I just didn’t feel right with whiskers all over my face. I did keep my goatee for now, but truthfully I prefer keeping my baby face!!!

Well, I have another busy summer ahead of me travelling all over the globe. But regardless of where I am, I will be hard at work on my game – believe that!!! I’m going to do whatever I can this summer to make sure that we’re never at home again after the first round of the playoffs. It’s a sick feeling being out of it already, and I’m going to use this feeling to drive me all summer to get better.

Well, I’m out of here for now. Hang in there Magic fans. The pain of losing will fade eventually and we’ll make another run again. Things will get better in the future, I promise you that!!! Yuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!

DWIGHT

    Dear Dwight,

Thanks for coming back with a a heart. Please do not get bitter. It is smart to watch the playoffs so you can see how much each team wants the title. You can check out the moves the plays and get smart. You are truly blessed and never forget that. Stay safe this summer and enjoy. I will check you out when the season starts. Goodbye and remember stay safe and God bless… Peace out. Joanne

    Dwight,
Thank you for your hard work and determination to bring Orlando a ring. Congrats on 3x defensive player award. As hard as it is to say have a great summer. I will also be working hard on my screaming and clapping and MVP chanting for next season.

    Magic fan for life

  5. Me-Mei says:

    Dwight,
Just keep holding on to God’s unchanging hand and He will give you the desires of your heart. If He can give you what you requested when you were a child when you wrote and made it plain to Christ that you wanted to go from high school to the NBA and become a no.#1 draft pick He can surely help you get(some)rings! It’s a time for everything sweetie, BUT YOU ARE A CONQUEROR!!!!! You were delayed not denied. Continue to pray and ask the Lord to order your steps not only in your career but youdaily decisions. I know people are hassling you about your decisions dealing with the Magic and it’s annoying, they just don’t understand what you are going through because no one has your heart and they’re not in your shoes they are just interested in your steps, that’s all. I don’t believe they mean any harm. Don’t let no one force you into doing anything without consulting with God first, because He knows all and He truly loves you despite those who CONDITIONALLY love you. Just relax, stay away from blogs as much as possible so there will be know negative comments fed to your spirit and know God has already planned the dates, time, and places that your rings will be received to you. Focus on your job, family, and your charity assignments. You got it, your name is already on it..In the name of Jesus! Be blessed and focused. Everything else is irrelevant.

  6. Liz says:

Thank you for posting this Dwight! A lot of us here in Orlando are heartbroken, but it’s nice to see you being positive about next season. You have given us 7 amazing years of basketball here in the city, and we certainly hope for more! But no matter what happens, you will ALWAYS be loved in Orlando! :)

  7. Wojtek says:

    Hey DDDDWIIIIIGGGGHHHHTTTT!
Don’t fell bad man! We all loose “games” in our lives. Just two days ago i had a really bad day at work , so that’s how it is. And maybe it will make you feel a little bit better, when you think about Tim Duncan and his Spurs , ufff.
So just enjoy your summer and stay cool.
    P.S.
Thank you for your dominance and performance during the season and playoffs, U R THE MAN!

  8. Dad says:

    Dad,

    Good read………… Interesting.

  9. Dennis says:

Dwight can I get an autograph and maybe hit up practice with you to see if I can beat you…

  10. harry says:

Dwight, you must ask for better roster for next season if you want to stay in Orlando because you will never win the ring with your current teammate.

I like a player like you ( good personality and good skills) and I want you to get multiple rings, I hope you get more rings than Lebron.

pls try to ask bigger PF like aldrige (Blazers) or someone who are big like you
Make it like San antonio (during Duncan and Robinson era)

ask for better SF who are good at perimeter defense (like ariza) because soon or later your team need to face Miami or New York.

i think those are the hardest position to get since there are lots of good players for SG position.
for PG, you can ask for Chris Paul but Nelson and Arenas are good enough for that position.

never consider to make trade that combine with Turkoglu (he is the worst player that i ever know) it would be better for you if you are not teammate with him again because
he take lots of salary that make your team hard to get good player, and he is not a good shoter, nor defense and passing.

I hope you get my massage Dwight
    best of luck

  11. Jetta says:

    Dwight,
I hate you guys are not in the playoffs as well. I miss seeing your mature face out there. I have to agree with you, I love your baby face better:). You are right in that your hard work from last summer did payoff this season. In my book you are the MVP (no offense Derek Rose). I was thinking about you earlier today at work and have been praying that you would remember that regardless to what any of us (the fans) want you to do or think or feel, you have to do what is in YOUR best interest and most importantly be in line with the will of God for you. As you go and travel the world this summer handling your business,be strong, be safe and I hope you take these words of encouragement with you. Read/Study Romans 8:28, 1 Corinthians 12 & 1 Corinthians 9:24-27. Much love from your Los Angeles fan

  12. willie walker says:

Hi Dwight I work across the street from you at the HDSupply building. I know you hate to acknowledge it but out biggest problem is Jameer. He’s a great shooter (at times) but he’s a HUGE liability (turnover prone, tooooo short, horrible defense, horrific passer). You have more power in this franchise than you know. Why don’t you convince them to sign these really good cheap FREE agents this summer. Shannon Brown gets paid 2mil a yr. We could easily woo him and give him a starting roll and pay him 5-7mil lakers wont match. J.R. Smith gets paid 5.6mil we can pay him 7.5 and have him as instant offense off the bench (this is of course if arenas is back to health and starting at point). I would trade bass and get Nene from denver who is also a free agent and wants to leave denver very badly. With Jameer, JRich, Bas and possibly Turk gone we about 36 million to play with. More free agents – Aaron Afflalo, JAMAL CRAWFORD, RODNEY STUCKEY, NICK YOUNG, RAY ALLEN, jeff green, Hamed Haddadi for backup center. What do you think?

  13. Amber says:

    Hey Dwight,
I totally understand how you feel and you do what you need to do to get over the pain of losing this playoff run but, don’t beat yourself up because your will to want to win really showed and I think everyone knows that!! I think I speak for all the Orlando fans when I say that I wish that they would stop talking about you being traded and contracts, it is unfair to you and us to listen to them give out rumors on what might, could or will never happen. Stay strong and I send you LOTS of LOVE!!

  14. willie walker says:

One more thing. I really think that you guys need to look into a new coach unless he can take pointers in the playoffs. He’s excellent coach but he’s not a great playoff coach. For some reason he panics in the playoffs. So you could have starters – Gil at 1, Shannon Brown (WE NEED SHANNON) at 2, Wilson Chandler at 3, Nene at 4, Dwight at 5.

Backup J.R. Smith (WE NEED J.R.) at 1, ->Nick Young/Courtney Lee at 2, QRich at 3, Ryan at 4, Daniel or Hamed Haddadi at 5. Extras Chris Duhon, Earl Clark,

So you will let go 41mil and paying out from 4 to 8mil for new comers and that totals out to 39mil. We’ve saved two million. These are all free agents by the way. Just some ideas.

  15. devin lebron says:

i know exactly how you feel my team just lost in the championship but better luck next time

  16. Vanessa says:

I’m still not over the loss either! I refuse to remove my Magic flag from outside my house! Dwight you are Orlando! We love u!

  17. Adam says:

Hi dwight, first off thanks for being amazing! Secondly , I’ve been meaning to share this for a while but I really think you guys should be watching and scouting teams in the playoffs, it gives you really keen insight into what it really takes to beat specific teams and when you analyze what each victorious team does to win a series, you gain perspective on what it really takes to win these playoff series, I mean no disrespect but some of the guys onthe team should be watching the playoffs. Thanks god bless

  18. Cliff Liu says:

You know what, Dwight. I am only 11 and have been following you ever since Lebron shot that buzzer in the conference finals some years before in lazy Turks face. I want energy from the Magic. If that is the reason you are leaving, THEN TELL US! Oh my god.I am sure you do not want to see the magic like the cavaliers, right? Tell us if u want to leave so we can make changes. Tell us now, and we will trade you to Hollywood for either Blake Griffin/Eric Gordan or Andrew Bynum/Pau Gasol! Or I will jump in a hole and stay there forever and die. I will hate basketball forever if you leave us like THE CAVALIERS. COME ON!!! I don’t care if u leave or not!

  19. Paul says:

Losing is a terrible thing to have to experience, but in the same sense it makes you stronger and helps you mature in life. You are family to us and we hope you make the right decision for yourself and your devoted fans like myself. Mental toughness and having the physical ability like you have will get you back to the finals again..

  20. Shellyanne Lutas says:

I love the goatee by the way….I hoped that you would have kept it. Yeah, I hate that Magics lost, I frankly don’t pay much attention to bball anymore since you departed, so its here nor there to me now until next season. While you acknowledged a lot of things Dwight, you need to also realize that you did what you could. Yes, the team wasn’t consistent, and that was the downfall, but you being the center/core of the team, I will see how you may be putting the blame on you, don’t! The fact of the matter is, Atlanta may have been more prepared and the fact that they’re still playing means that they pulled out all the stops to ensure they’d make it through the next phase. What Magics should do the next time around, is play just as aggressive and consistent as ever (as y’all did in Game 6 – I think). The Magics are a great team, and realizing your strengths and rotating players where necessary is gonna be important in the future.

I must commend you also on being dedicated to the Magics through to the end of your contract. I know there’s alot of talk about where you’re gonna go next, just explore the options but stay focused on what the next season will demand of you. Continue on, and cheer up hun, you did what you could and you need to pat yourself on the shoulder, okay babe….

Anyway, I’m outta here, just be good and as usual, I stay faithful to Dwight Howard (lol)…. Byyyyyeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  21. Adrian says:

    Come to LAKERS plzzzzzz !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  22. Ron says:

Hey Dwight, can you please come to the Lakers already? The city needs you. You are the next big thing to come out of Los Angeles and we welcome you with open arms. We both know that you are ready for worldwide popularity. This is your chance. Come get it, baby! We <3 you!

  23. Alan says:

It’s all good Dwight! I had high hopes as well, but some people could not get it moving. I flew out to Orlando hoping to catch game 7, but we got knocked out. We have some work to do. Stay positive because good things happen to good people.

  24. fina says:

STAY AND DO SOMETHING GREAT FOR THIS CITY.

    FINA

  25. Kyle says:

Hey Dwight, got your tweet about the Orlando Sentinel…don’t listen to the media. All they care about is their ratings and will pull all kinds of stuff just to get their name out there. All the summer work with Hakeem showed and you were a monster this season…can’t wait to see you this fall!

  26. JJ says:

Hey Dwight. You played your best all year. You put up 46 and 20 in game 1 vs the Hawks and the rest of the team just didn’t get it done. Theres always room for improvement but you did all that you could man. Honestly I dont know where Otis is trying to take this team. We get to the finals, come so close in 2 games and I really believe if Jameer was completely healthy we beat LA and take home a championship. Then he just let Hedo go, trades away Lee and Alston and brings in VC who is a great guy but just isn’t a good defender. Then we lose to the Celtics because of our perimeter defense. This year trading Rashard for Gilbert didnt make a lot of sense to me. I liked bringing Hedo back but let Lewis try to find his game again. I think a lot of the reason for Lewis’ decline was because Hedo wasnt around to distribute the ball like before. Cant do anything about it now though, the GM made the moves and its done.

Saw your tweet a bit ago that the Sentinel is acting stupid. Dont get it twisted though Dwight real fans of this team support you to the end and the paper is just there to try and stir up a bunch of crap so people read it. Dont take any of that to heart. Its like the tabloids at the supermarket. Crazy headlines attract readers. It sucks but dont leave us because of a newspaper. The fans here deserve better than that. Everyone in the media thinks you’ll wind up in LA, they get Shaq from us, then we get you, we get to the finals, then they all say you’re gonna end up on the team that beat us out for a championship a few years ago. I really hope that doesn’t happen and we can find a way to keep you here and in contention for championships until you retire. LA isnt the only city who deserves NBA greats. Anyway, have fun traveling the world and hit the practice floor and drag a few teammates out there with you because lord knows they need it twice as much as you do. Bring it back next year man. Peace!!

  27. Gama says:

    hi Dwight

im not your fan but i really appreciate what you do for your fans in Orlando…

it is so admirable your commitment with your team and your fans…

congratulations you are a real winner!!

regards from some guy in mexico!!!

  28. Magicman says:

Dwight, I feel you on the loss. Its never fun to lose. But, what I can say is that you inspire this city with your play. The way you give everything you got on the court makes me want to be better at what I do. I have been a Magic fan ever since I was a kid, and feel that you and Darrel Armstrong are two cats that I would let my kids emulate. Love the passion Dwight. We are fortunate to have you here and will keep supporting everything you do.

As far as the Sentinel, I am dissapointed that this is the only paper we have in town. The guys working at the local sports page dont mean any harm but I just dont think they get it man. Please know that what they say in there stupid articles are not at all reflective of how we in Orlando think about your situation. When we gather around our water coolers on Monday morning and talk sports, its unanimous. The city of Orlando loves you, and will support you in whatever decision you make. The Sentinel has nothing to write about so they try and poke and prod until they hit something that may cause a reaction. Stay humble, stay hard working and let god lead you. You have been blessed with tremendous talents by god and I love that you are living to the fullest and bringing so many smiles to so many people aroudn the city. Much love.

  29. Sarah says:

Hey Dwight. Just a message of support – you played phenomenally through this whole season and Game 2 against Atlanta – wow! 46 points?! Crazy. But it wasn’t in the cards for your team this season. (Atlanta plays diiirty!) Don’t feel too bad – hey, the Lakers are out too! Been a topsy turvy season all round. You are my favorite player and I’m always using you as an example to my 10 year old son in his basketball game, in how he behaves in life toward others and in how you look after yourself. You are a fantastic role model. My dream to shake your hand one day. God Bless and have a great summer!

  30. Caren says:

Orlando will be blessed by all your hard work baby face. We have faith and fun with you. Let’s keep the ball bouncing for a sweet summer.

  31. Rebbie says:

    Hi DH,
Its funny cos I have also stopped watching or following the playoffs since Magic lost to the Hawks; but its all good. Next season is another season, so lets focus on that. I am a firm believer that u will bring the title to Orlando. I know this loss is hard and painful to bear, but what is done is done. Learn whatever lessons u can from this season, and put them to good use for next season.
And so Superman, keep ur head up and keep smiling…..and stay strong in the Lord! God bless.

  32. miguel says:

I am happy for you champion even though my heart is broken!!!
Anyway, many blessings to you & your Christine! I am very thankful to the Lord that she is a christian girl & this way you both can live & lead a faith filled life! :)
    I love you! Take care!

  34. Porky Wilcox says:

Hang in there Dwight, we all feel your pain. We had some changes this year & I think they will take more effect next season. You’re young and have a great, long career ahead of you and we pray it will be here in “The City Beautiful” (Orlando). I, myself, will support you in your entire tenure in the NBA. You look so good in the Magic uniforms. Especially the “Retro”!

Take Care Cause We Care…”Porky” Wilcox

  35. JE says:

You should bring Dwight’s “Fav Five” to Orlando. That would tight. You gotta do what’s right for you, but bouncing out or forcing a trade won’t be as unique and kinda wack actually. With how much the Magic spend Smith should be able to work out the best team in the NBA. Look at Chicago…Rose sucks in the entire D which opens them up unbelievably. One guy could change the whole scope for next season. CP3, Mayo, and D12. Tom Brady didn’t go to the Cowboys; he made the Patriots a better organization. That’s why he’s considered the best QB. To do it in Orlando would be monumental. Micheal Jordan, Joe Montana/Jerry Rice, Jeter…just sayin.

  36. mfflbro says:

I know you don’t feel like you get the praise you deserve and I agree, but the Lakers are not the answer. You will become the scapegoat as long as beloved Kobe remains there and he’s locked in for three more years. Could Bynum have given that team anymore of a lift? They spent $92M and don’t have a point guard or bench. As, a fan of the game I can tell you the most perfect complement to your game would be STAT (@PF), but NY won’t keep him if you go there and it seems they have an affinity for losing up there besides its cooooooold. You know we have our sights on Deron Williams for a homecoming, we committed to, the still elite (-look at reg season #s, Kidd was a top 5 or 6 PG.) and don’t forget about Steve needing to be rescued, with that being said I hope you make the right decision and choose a perennial winning organization. Would any team be able to hang with 3D Dwight, Deron and Dirk? I think not and as stated before we are committed to having an elite PG. Also, look at the success Tyson’s defensive edge has brought to the Mavericks. I really hope you consider Dallas, not just as a bidder to increase demand, but as a final destination where you know your owner will fight for you, the fans will adore you and is a great area to live in. I know you probably hear thousands of whispers in your ear as to what to do and where to go and what to say, etc. and this is why I am reaching out to you through such an unorthodox channel. Analyze the amenities from top to bottom. Just a few others off the top of my head: location to West and East coast, private jet, state tax… winning is not enough for us, year-after-year we strive for the ultimate goal. I witnessed the Robinson/Duncan tandem and I believe whole-heartedly that Dwight + Dirk can achieve so much more with Cuban at the helm. I have been a hardcore NBA fan for 10 years now, I read hoopshype daily, rotoworld player news for live and real injury and lineup reports, and any betting site for spreads and totals just to see how the game is going to be called. I will be loud as ever and rocking my signed Kidd jersey, as many times before, tomorrow at AAC when the Mavericks destroy the Thunder. You can be a part of this!

  37. Ryan Fonseca says:

Dwight I’ve been a magic fan for a long time!I have watched great players pass through Orlando over the years and as great as they were none of them meant as much to me and this city as you do.It’s crazy I don’t know if I’m more a Orlando Magic fan or a Dwight Howard fan so I just want say I hope you retire here but whatever happens I’ll have your back from the watching you at the arena or behind the tv (hopefully on fs sports or sunshine net)!

P.S. please shut up all those haters!

  38. FinDiesel says:

Dwight, I am a die hard Magic fan since ‘89 and have much respect for you. Work on also getting stronger in the word and becoming like Christ. It will help you in your game as far as technicals. I hope you end up re-signing after next summer regardless what happens in the playoffs and am confident Otis can build a championship team so that we will be the best team in florida and the best team in the world. Even though Orlando is not the biggest market and doesnt have the lights and glamor or ny or la. I know you take pride in it and appreciate that. We support you no matter what decision you make you are a class act unlike lebron and some other dudes. Take care! and get me some courtside seats!!! lol

  39. Phil says:

Thanks for an incredible season Dwight. I know it didn’t finish where we wanted but it will get better.

    Thanks from a true fan,

  41. d rose says:

Please come to the Chicago Bulls. It would be great to start winning some titles again. thanks

  42. Josh says:

I woke up to news of you possibly signing an extension and immediately got very excited. I’m draming of you ending your career in a Magic uniform with multiply championships. We need to get your boy C. Lee back where he belongs and bring in other dudes that ball their hearts out like you and him.

You are the man brother.. and a brother in Christ which is awesome as well. Thanks for all you do for this city!

    Josh

  43. Triggaman says:

Looking forward to the Magic’s future with you Dwight, I know Orlando can do it with you holding it down!

I can see you working hard and becoming that #1 player in the league next year.

As a 90% free throw shooter myself, I could offer this one suggestion- you don’t have to read further obviously if you think I’m crazy.. but try bending your knees more before you shoot the free throw… then just come back up and release.. it’s all about rhythm. So BEND THE KNEES down and then rise back up as you shoot in one rhythm motion.. that should get you up to like 70% for sure and catapult you to that #1 spot!

Thanks for all you do, big homie.

  44. Rich says:

As someone who doesn’t live in Orlando, or particularly care about the Magic, I have to say you’re a credit to yourself and that city.

Everything in life changes, and the choices we make define us. Some of us choose the easy way, some choose the way we think is right.

Reading your comments, and the relationship between you and the city is nothing short of sublime. It’s, well, magically, and I hope you stay, and I hope you win.

You’re a class act, and I rarely admire athletes, but you’re certainly someone that is worthy of it.

Good luck. I truly wish you the best.

  45. Praful says:

    Hey Dwight,

I am not from Orlando but am still a Magic fan and the reason is your play and personality… I really hope you don’t follow the likes of lebron and Bosh and leave the city that adores you as a player and as part of their family…Hey man, don’t you worry your time will come and I really hope you play in Orlando your entire career…

    Have a great offseason!!!

  46. D12… I am 25 years old and i’m from st.Thomas VI. I can relate some what to how it feel it seems like everybody is after you to see where your going to end up. (i play music in a band!) I was goin to wait until the 30th but i said nahh. I think yu should stay in Orlando. You are a superstar that other superstars would love to play for. Your in the eastern conference with a majority of the superstars in the NBA.Plus (and i hate to say it because im an Orlndo fan) u have the two of the biggest superstars right down the road and u have to play them 4 times! You are a Superstar! Your ur “SuperStardom”!!

  47. Viviana says:

    Hey Dwight!
I’ve been a Magic fan most of my life, and I would LOVE to see us win a title, but please don’t be so hard on yourself! You’re a great player, and I have definitely seen a lot of improvement in you. Keep it up! Just wanted to say it means so much that you want to stay in Orlando. You have turned this city around with your humble spirit and your community involvement. O-town is SO blessed to have a such a wonderful role model! Thanks!

  48. Andrew says:

    Dwight Howard,
    shame your season ended here.
But just look at the unbelievable amount of work you put into your game last summer!
That leaves me wondering just how good you’ll be when you return after the break! So put in the hard work and surprise us all next season!!
    Good luck.
    Andrew
