Win a $500 Adidas shopping spree with me!!!

Thursday, April 15th, 2010

Heyyyyy wooooorrrrrllld!!! Hope you guys all heard about me starting up the Dwight Howard Fund to help the kids in Haiti. I’ve been getting a good reaction from from some of the people around Orlando, and I just want to make sure the word gets out to everybody out there across the country and around the world. Y’all wouldn’t believe the fans who love the Magic in China!!! They know more about the Magic than I do, and I play here!!!

Anyway, to make sure that we get lots of people joining in to donate to the Fund, we’re offering up two ways to win a $500 Adidas shopping spree with yours truly. It’s going to be tight and the shopping sprees will let a couple of fans freshen up their wardrobes with new adidas gear for the summer.

For everybody who donates $2.99 to my Haiti fund, your name will be entered into a drawing. One winner will get the coolest shopping spree ever with me down in O-town.

Then, for the person who recruits the most people to donate will also get to go on another Adidas shopping spree with me. How cool is that? We’ll pick out the coolest gear, I’ll throw in some of my shoes and T-shirts and we’ll have a blast.

I hope you guys can see how serious I’m taking this. My teammate, Adonal Foyle, really opened my eyes to how much those kids over in Haiti still need our help and I want to make this a huge success. I tried to get it jump-started with a $100,000 donation, and now I’m hoping with all the help from y’all that we can double that.

For info on how to contribute, you can go to www.dwighthowardfund.org

I did have some fun at Adonal’s gala when I went up to make my announcement and told everybody that I was retiring from the NBA to start my own team in China. I think I had some people going for it, but apparently they forgot how I like to have fun and laugh as much as possible.

Not sure if they keep records for fundraisers and these kinds of things, but I want to break the record to get the most people to contribute to my fund so we can help the kids out in Haiti. This is a small way that all of us can make a big difference to people who need it the most.

So make a donation and maybe while you’re doing something good for those in need and maybe you can win that tight shopping spree with me!!!

Help me help the kids of Haiti!!!

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

Heyyyyyy wooorrrrld!!! A big, big announcement today for everybody out there and I’m really going to need y’all’s help and support to make this a big-time success.

We’re launching the Dwight Howard Fund to try and help Haitian kids affected by the earthquake back in January. I made the announcement Tuesday night at Adonal Foyle’s Gala Dinner because Adonal’s Kerosene Lamp Foundation is going to help me manage the foundation.

Adonal has been a real mentor to me, and I wanted to use his experience to make sure our fund really makes a difference the way his does.

Not bragging or anything, but I made an initial donation of $100,000 to help the at-risk Haitian children affected by January’s earthquake there. That’s just the start of what I want to try and do for that country because they really need our help.

I spent a couple of weeks in South Africa last summer with Dikembe Mutombo and Chris Bosh and it made a huge impact on my life and how I look at things. I want to use my name and everything in my power to help people and make a difference. Us in the NBA, we have it so good and we complain sometimes over the smallest stuff. So I want to do what I can spread some goodwill to people who need it the most.

Haiti seemed like the perfect place to start and a place that really needs the help. They were a poor country and then they had the devastating earthquake, so they need a lot of help. There have been a lot of relief efforts in Haiti already but there’s still a lot of work to do there, especially with the children.

That’s where I need all of my fans out there to help me. I’m just one dude and I can only do so much, but if all the Magic fans and all the Dwight fans come together I feel like we can make a big difference.

We’re trying to raise another $100,000 for Haiti’s children. And I’m going to throw in a couple of personal shopping sprees with yours truly if you will help out.

For everybody who donates $2.99 to the cause, your name will be entered into a drawing. One winner will get a $500 Adidas shopping spree with me in Orlando. And the person who recruits the most people to donate will also get to go on another $500 Adidas shopping spree with me in Orlando. You can go to www.dwighthowardfund.org or www.pinkdingo.com/dhf for details and to donate.

We might have to wait until late June to go on the shopping spree because I’m hoping to be busy these next couple of months trying to win my first championship.

I just hope everybody gets involved with this because it’s a great cause and you can possibly get to meet yo’ boy in person and get some fresh Adidas gear to go along with it. I’m very much behind my Fund, and I hope you guys will join me in helping make a difference around the world.

Well, I’m outta here. Make sure y’all spread the word about this fund to everyone you know. I want to try do everything I can to raise money and help some people that really need our assistance.

Peace!

My E-bay auction, meeting Brandon and my big announcement!!!

Monday, April 12th, 2010

Heyyyyyy wooorrrrrrlldddd!! We got us another win in Cleveland yesterday and we’re in Indiana tonight. We didn’t play great on Sunday and I’ve got to admit it was kind of a letdown for our team when the Cavs didn’t play all of their guys, but a win is a win.

If we win our last two games, we’ll finish with the second best record in the NBA. That could be really big if we get back to the Finals again because it wold mean we would have homecourt advantage. Trust me, after starting in the Finals in LA last spring, we want to be in Orlando if we get there again. That could mean all the difference in the world. We want that championship so bad, so we’ll take any advantage that we can get right now.

I got a lot of stuff for you guys that I need to mention today, and I don’t really even know where to start.

First, here’s the memorabilia that we’re putting up on E-bay for the next seven days for you fans. Remember, a big chunk of the proceeds from this is going to fund the scholarship program for my summer kids basketball camps in Orlando and Atlanta. Here are the items:

My All-Star jersey.
Four Commander T-shirts.
A complete pair of SM TS Bounce Commander shoes.
Two complete pairs of TTS Bounce Commander shoes.
And another complete pair of AST NBS Bounce ARTI shoes.

I also wanted to tell you guys about getting to meet 21-year-old Brandon Young the other day at our practice. Brandon suffers from Cerebral Palsy and Epilepsy and he’s blind in one eye. He got to hang out with us at practice the other day and I took him out on the court to shoot free throws with me.

All of the things that Brandon goes through on a daily basis, I don’t know I could handle it if I was in his position. But it’s so great to see him smile. The affect that we as professional athletes can have, sometimes we don’t realize what just saying “hello’’ could have an impact on someone’s life.

Brandon was so excited and jumping for joy, just being out there with us, making a shot and meeting all of the guys. Meeting someone in his position being so happy really had an effect on me the last few days.

We have to be thankful for living and having a good life. I was just thinking how life could be a lot worse and we complain sometimes over the little things. But here’s a guy who is 21 years old and he has a lot of things going on health-wise and instead of him pouting or acting upset, he’s smiling and having fun.

So maybe that’s today’s less for all of us: Be happy with what you have and realize how fortunate you are.

And my last thing today is telling y’all about the announcement that I will be making Tuesday night at Adonal Foyle’s Charity Gala Dinner. It’s going to be huge. We’re going to make an announcement about helping some people in need, and we need y’all’s help too. There will be some hot prizes and a chance to meet yours truly if you get involved.

So check back here on Tuesday and Wednesday and we’ll give you more info on the big announcement coming Tuesday night at Adonal’s gala.

Peace out.

No T’s for me!!!

Friday, April 9th, 2010

Heyyyyyyy woooorrrrrrldddddd!!! Hope everybody out there is doing great.

We’re rolling right along here, trying to finish the regular season really strong so that when we get to the playoffs we have it going on all cylinders. The great thing in our locker room is that everybody knows there is only one goal and we’re not stopping until we get that ‘ship.

We beat Washington on Wednesday, we’ve got the Knicks tonight and then we play in Cleveland and Indy on Sunday and Monday for our last back-to-back of the season. We close with Philly next Wednesday and then it’s live for the playoff time.

We’ve tied the Lakers in the standings and we want to pass them so if we get lucky enough to get back to the Finals we could have homecourt advantage. It’s crazy how games against the Knicks, Pacers and Sixers could come down to determining the Finals, but that’s just proof that every game that we play means something.

I think we’ve done a good of focusing on finishing strong, but I gotta tell you that I’m so hyped and ready for the playoffs to start. Last spring was so much fun, making that deep run, and I’m just eager to get it started again.

Everybody has been asking me what’s been different lately with me not picking up any Ts. I’ve had some really frustrating games, but I’ve worked hard on trying to not get frustrated and lose my composure. I know my team needs me out there on the floor, so I can afford to miss time because of something silly.

I guess I have been eight games now without a T. (I hope that I’m not jinxing myself for tonight against the Knicks). I just decided I wasn’t going to keep giving back money and I was going to stop getting so mad out on the court. And my teammates have done a good job of staying in my ear and talking to me and helping me stay calm out on the court.

I still say people don’t understand the beating that I take during games. They would get upset too if they were pushed and grabbed and whacked all game long. It’s like because I’m bigger that it should OK for people to take swings at me. But I’m trying to keep my cool better.

People don’t understand that I play my best when I’m happy and having fun. When I’m angry I’m thinking too much about what I’m going to do to that guy across from me. It gets me distracted from what we’re trying to do and I lose my focus.

So if you see me out there smiling, that usually means we’re winning and I’m having a good game. A lot of people taking my smiling the wrong way, acting like I’m just goofing off and I’m too nice on the court. If ya’ll think that ask the dudes who have to guard me if I’m too nice.

Well, I just wanted to explain my side of things. I’m trying to stay positive and keep us rolling into the playoffs. We just have to stay focused on the task at hand and keep playing these remaining few games hard because you never know which one could impact us in the Finals.

God bless, and y’all have a good weekend!!!

Here’s my pregame routine!!!

Tuesday, April 6th, 2010

Heyyyyyy worrrrrrld!!! A lot of people ask me all of the time about my little pregame routine that I go through before every game, so I thought I would write about it today.

Sticking with the same routine feels good and gets my mind right before the tipoff. Usually I keep everything the same, but occasionally I mix it up for some fun. Like last week in Dallas, I went over the referees and acted like I was breaking their huddle and said, `I love the refs.’ They got a good laugh out of it, and hey, I didn’t pick up a foul in the game.

Before the game, I can be silly sometimes and I love seeing if I can hit some of those crazy halfcourt shots. I’m still working on that hook from the ball rack. I’ve made a few of them, but I think this year has been my career low percentage-wise on those crazy shots. They loosen me up before the game.

Me and Jameer are usually the last two Magic players on the floor right before the tip. We have the same handshake we have done for six years and after it he pounds me on the chest and I pop him on the top of the head. It just kind of lets us know that we will be there for one another in the game.

After that, I have to be the last one to walk on the sticky paper before the game and I always tear off a fresh sheet.

When I wad up the sticky paper, I do the shake that makes people wonder what I’m going to do and it’s always good for a few laughs. The Dream Shake came from Hakeem Olajuwon. I act like I’m doing a post move, put ball between my legs, go around the back and pump-fake a couple of times. I’ve watched a lot of tapes of Hakeem the Dream, so I just wanted to do a little tribute to him and do something fun, too.

I didn’t want to do anything with powder like some other guys. I just wanted something all my own that nobody has done before. So I thought The Dwight Shake would be different!!!

Then, after I shake hands with the guys, I go off to the end of the floor and say a prayer to get myself locked in. The reason I pray is there are so many things that could go wrong on the court and I just ask God to put some angels around me and my teammates to protect us so that nobody has a serious injury.

I’ve been saying that same prayer since I got the NBA. I pray with the team before the game and I say my own prayer. I have so much to be thankful, and I just like to take that time to say thanks and ask God to watch over me.

Well, that’s my routine. People seem to really like it and it gets me ready to play, so I think I’ll stick with it.

For all of you athletes out there: What’s your pregame routine? My folks over at Gatorade are having a contest where they are going to bring the new G-Series Gatorade locker room for your team if you have the best pregame routine. Here’s more info on the event.

Make sure you send in your pregame routines so your team can have a chance to have the Gatorade G-Series locker room come by your school. Good luck! Yuuuuuaaaaaa
