the McDonald’s All-American rosters are out!

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

Heeeeyyyy wooorrrlllddd! Hope you all are having a GREAT day!

Y’all know that one of my favorite basketball memories was participating in the McDonald’s All-American game in 2004. That was the year Candace Parker beat all the guys in the Slam Dunk Contest. She became a BIG star after that.

Since that time, I’ve built a solid relationship with McDonald’s and am now a member of the McDonald’s All-American Advisory Council. Well, I just wanted to let you all know that the players have been selected and the rosters are now out. These teams are packed with talent. You can check out the rosters at http://mcdonaldsallamerican.com.

I personally can’t wait to see this year’s game. I always look forward to watching the next generation of basketball stars face off on the court. You never know…the next Dwight Howard or Candace Parker could be playing in this year’s game.

What are some of your favorite McDonald’s All-American Game memories? Let me know in the comments section.

My All-Star Game memories

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

Heeeeeyyyyyy worrrrrllllddd!!! What’s up everybody? Back from the All-Star Game and ready to jump start this stretch run to the playoffs. We all know that now is the time to sharpen our focus, clean up some of our inconsistency and make a real push to get ready for the postseason. We’ve talked all year about trying to win a championship, so now it’s time for us to start having the focus and effort every night of champions.

Let’s talk about the all-star game. I had a so much fun. The whole weekend was great. That was one of the best all-star games I’ve ever played in. Playing before 108,000 fans was incredible. Someday I might tell my son that I played before the largest crowd to ever watch a basketball game, but he would probably just be happy that his dad got to play ball.

Not sure if you guys saw my record shot or not from Saturday at the all-star game, but I am now the Guiness World Record Holder for the longest shot while sitting down. I made one from 52 feet-six inches and I got a plaque for drilling the shot. Ya’ll know I like to try all kinds of crazy shots before games, so that one was a lot of fun. I knew I could make it, but I just needed a couple of tries to get the distance right.

I had four other great memories from all-star weekend:

1. Ya’ll know I’m a spokesman now for McDonald’s so I went one day and worked in a McDonald’s in Dallas. I made some burgers, made some French fries and I even learned how to make hot chocolate. The people in the store were cool and we just had a good time together. It was a lot of fun.

2. I got to hang out with some of the kids from the Make-A-Wish program before the game, and that’s always special to me helping kids who are going through a hard time have some fun. I took a couple of the guys around the locker room and let them meet all the all-stars and get their autographs. Those kids are so tough and they inspire me.

3. Ya’ll probably saw me make that 3-pointer in the game, too. Everybody was shocked, but I wasn’t. I’ve been putting in a lot of time before games and after practice shooting with Patrick Ewing and trying to expand my shooting stroke.

I make dozens of threes every day in practice, so it wasn’t that surprising to me that I made one in the game. Ya’ll don’t believe me, ask Derrick Rose and C-Bosh if I didn’t beat them in a 3-point shooting contest before the all-star game? They were mad that a big man like me beat them and they could see how much work I’ve been putting in on my shot.

4. And then there was that H-U-G-E HD replay board that they had in Cowboys stadium. I told the guys on our team that I might want get one of those for my house. If I had one then I could see myself playing NBA Live or Madden on a really big screen. I could put it across the back yard and I could sit in my room and look out at TV. Now that would be cool!!!

Anyway, thanks so much to all ya’ll for voting me into the All-Star Game. Hopefully, I represented you well. Maybe one day I can win the MVP of the all-star game, but my focus is more on getting that championship. Raising that NBA title trophy over my head is what I want more than anything, and I’m going to do my best to bring it home this season.

Pray for us!!!

Hoping D-Rose is OK

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

Heyyyyyy worrrld!!!! What ya’ll up to? Hope ya’ll staying warm cause we’ve been freezing on this roadtrip with all the snow and wing.

We’re in Cleveland now getting ready for this big one against Bron-Bron and the Cavs tonight. We’re in the same hotel as we were last spring, so naturally it brought back memories of being in the East Finals against these guys. That was such an awesome time for us, and we all wanna get back there so bad.

We had a really good game last night in Chicago. We were on fire from the start and we really jumped on those guys good. We didn’t hard miss a shot in that first quarter, getting lobs, hitting 3-pointers and cuts to the rim.

The only bad thing about that night was that my boy, Derrick Rose, got hurt when he collided with me at the rim. I saw the replay and he really hit hard on his butt and hip. I went over to him and asked him if he was OK and he said he was.

Some dudes after the game asked me if it was a dirty play and I just had to laugh. Apparently they don’t see some of the hits that I take every night down there.

With D-Rose driving to the hoop, it was just his momentum and my momentum that caused that to happen. It wasn’t like I caught him real hard and he went down. It was just momentum and when he hit the Man of Steel he went down. He should know he can’t tug on Superman’s cape. Just kidddin’.

D-Rose is a really good guy. We spent a lot of time together last summer when we went to China as part of an Adidas trip. We spent a lot of time talking and really built a good relationship. He’s such a good dude.

I just told him that he’s off to a really good start to his career and to stay on track. You can already see how he’s such a good leader for that team. He does it by example instead of being a rah-rah talker. I like that ‘cause that’s the way I try to lead.

I really think he’s got a good chance to make the Olympic team in 2012 and go with us to London and try and get another gold. I gotta thank Mr. Colangelo for putting me on the team again. I had so much fun on that 2008 team and winning gold in China that I knew I wanted to play again if I could. Hopefully we can bring home another gold for good ol’ USA.

After tonight’s game I’m headed to All-Star Weekend. If you are gonna be out there you can come and hang out with me at two spots. On Friday I’m gonna be at the McDonald’s on 1000 Commerce St. at 10:30 AM. On Saturday I’m gonna be at the Parks at Arlington Mall Foot Locker for the release of my new adidas Supernatural Commander shoes. I’ll be there from 2-3 PM signing autographs, so come through and see ya boy.

Hey, one more thing before I bust up outta here. My guys are selling some of my memorabilia on e-bay. Some of the money is going to my foundation (Dwight D. Howard Foundation) to provide scholarships to less fortunate kids to go to my summer camps in Orlando and Atlanta. It’s a really good cause and there’s some tight stuff they have there. They were fightin over my shoes last night in Chicago when I threw them into the crowd after the game. And I had fun throwing some of my towels to the kids sitting near the court. And one girl had a funny sign asking me to go to the prom with her. Y’all crazy.

OK, here’s the stuff we have on e-bay. The seller name is DwightsStuff12:

4 t-shirts
3 complete pair’s of TS Bounce Commander
3 complete pair’s of AST Bounce NBA ARTI
2 single shoes AST Bounce NBA ARTI
5 Autographed Jerseys
1 complete pair Finals Edition Game 3
1 complete pair Finals Edition Game 5

Alright y’all…make sure to cheer us on tonight. It’s a big game. Yuuuuaaaaa!!!!

Superbowl Sunday, McDonalds and Going back to South Africa

Monday, February 8th, 2010

Heeeeyyyyyy worrrrrld!!! How are you guys? Hope ya’ll got to watch our game against the Celtics Sunday afternoon before the Super Bowl came on. In that third quarter we played about as well as we have all season. I think somebody said we had a 19-0 stretch in that quarter that completely turned the game around.

Afterward everybody was asking me if that was a statement game for us because it was on national TV and it was the Celtics and it was in Boston and yad yada yada. But I think it was a statement to ourselves about how good we can be when we play together, talk on defense and share the ball like we did. When the ball is going in and out, that’s where we’re getting open shots and clean looks on the post. Hopefully, it was a learning game for us.

I know how everybody out there loves the commercials during the Super Bowl, so I hope ya’ll got to see my new McDonald’s commercial with LeBron just before the game came on.

It was pretty tight, huh??? Ya’ll like when ya boy rips the rim down and the backboard just explodes with glass everywhere? That was so much fun to make. I would love to do something like that during a game. I did shake the shot clock loose last year during a playoff game in Cleveland, but I’ve never shattered a backboard during a game. I’ve broken a few rims when I was in high school, but nothing like blowing up the backboard.

Something else for ya’ll to watch out for: Adidas is gonna send me to South Africa this summer to cover the World Cup as a member of the media. They want their basketball guys interviewing soccer players and mixing and matching the sports. I think it will be a lots of fun, but I’ve got to do a lot of research because I don’t know the first thing about soccer, ya’ll?

A fan at our game on Friday night gave me an autographed jersey from Brazil’s soccer team, but I don’t have a clue who it is. I still put it up on my wall of fame with all of the other jerseys that I have.

Well, we got another game Monday against New Orleans. Then, we’ll be in Chicago and Cleveland before the break. All ya’ll little homies watch out for me coming to a city near you. And then thanks to ya’ll’s votes, I’ll be in Big D over the weekend at the All-Star Game. It’s gonna be fun, and I’m looking forward to trying to give back to all of the fans who voted for me. Thanks, you guys.

I’m outta here. Peace out.
