Mentoring the young guys

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

Heyyyyy world!!!! What up, what????

We got a little revenge on those young Thunder cats last night. We had a really good game defending and moving the ball and we wanted to play well for Jameer Nelson, who was out after having knee surgery. It’s crazy with all the stuff we’ve been through already with the injuries and the flu, but I keep telling myself that it’s early in the year and it’s better that it happen now than later before the playoffs.

Playing OKC last night, I got to see my guy, Kevin Durant, some last night. We have the same agent (Goodwin Sports Managment) and we’ve become pretty good friends through the years at all-star games and when we were training for the Olympic team.

Me and Kevin used to talk a lot, but it’s been tough so far this season because we’ve been so busy with our schedules. We still talk a little bit on Twitter (check KD out on Twitter) and see how each other is doing. He’s a really good dude and has such a good head on his shoulders.

He’s pretty much better now than he was last season and so much better than he was his rookie year so I don’t have to say a lot to him. That kid is on his way to being great and he’s gonna lead the league in scoring real soon.

I try to help out as many of the young guys in the NBA as I can the same way the veterans helped me out back when I was a skinny 18-year-old kid straight out of high school. Guys like Tony Battie and Grant Hill and even Rasheed Wallace back when he was on the Pistons took time out to give me advice about being a pro, and that’s something I’ll never forget.

I was kind of a mentor last season to Courtney Lee – even though he’s older than me!!! How crazy is that??? I kind of took him under my wing and he blew up and had a great rookie season for us. We became really good friends and I miss that dude now that he’s playing up in Jersey.

Even though I’m just in my sixth year and still pretty much a young guy, I feel like I’ve been through a lot already in the NBA. It’s on me to share that stuff with the other young guys in the NBA and be a mentor when I can. I gotta help them the way the vets helped me a few years ago.

Well, we got a big one Friday vs. Boston, so we’ll need to play our best ball to win that game. With Boston, I really think it’s all about defense and not giving up easy shots. We’ve got a lot of weapons and they do too, so the team that gets the most stops is probably going to win it.

I’m out of here for now. Ya’ll be good!!!

Check out NBA Live 10 Mobile

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

Heeeyyy World. NBA Live 10 Mobile just dropped in the iTunes store. If you haven’t seen what it looks like, you need to check out this video:

At the launch of NBA Live 10 I had a contest and gave away some copies of the game on Superfan.com, Facebook and Twitter. Since the mobile version of NBA Live 10 just dropped, I’m gonna have another contest and give away free downloads of NBA Live 10 mobile to my fans.

The rules are basically the same as the last contest. Here they are:

Superfan.com

I will give one download code for NBA Live 10 mobile to my Superfan and another code to the Superfan of NBA Live as of 8pm EST on Monday November 16th. If you haven’t been on Superfan before, it’s a website where you can compete to become the “Superfan” of your favorite things. So if you want to win a free download of NBA Live 10 mobile, log on to both my page and NBA Live’s page and start competing to become the Superfan of both.

Facebook

I will post trivia questions on my Facebook page for fans to answer. In order to qualify to win you MUST have your facebook profile photo changed to the NBA Live 10 cover. The first person that replies correctly and has the NBA Live 10 cover as their profile photo will win a free download of NBA Live 10 mobile. I’m not sure when I will be asking the questions, so you should go ahead and change your facebook profile photo to the NBA Live 10 cover now.

Twitter

The rules for the contest on Twitter are almost the same as Facebook. I will post trivia questions on Twitter for my followers to answer. The first person to answer the question correctly will win a free download of NBA Live 10 mobile. In order to qualify for the contest you must have the NBA Live 10 cover set as your Twitter profile picture and have the #nbalive10mobile hashtag added to your answer. Just like with Facebook, I’m not sure when I am going to be posting each trivia question, so you should go ahead and change your Twitter profile pic to the NBA Live 10 cover now.

Alright ya’ll. Good luck with the contest. And if you don’t win, make sure you download a copy of the game here. Yuuuaaaaa!!!

An opening-night win!!!

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

Wowowowowow, now that’s what I call an opening night. The crowd was super hyped up and we played really well … well, for about three quarters of the game anyway.

We beat Philly 120-106 last night, but we were up by as much as 31. Our second unit, sparked by my man J-Will, gave us a huge boost there in the second quarter. And we stretched that lead out in the third.

I played OK, I guess, but what I took out of the night was how everybody is so into basketball this season already. It used to be when I first got here that the NBA was almost dead in Orlando. Me and ‘Meer talked about how we had to make people become Magic fans here in Orlando, and that’s certainly the case now.

We’re hungry for a championship and so is the city. There are no agendas and just one goal – win that ‘ship. Really, I’m not surprised that our team has blended so quickly because we all know there’s only one mission this season. That brought us all together really quickly.

And my night got even better after the game. We flew in my millionth Twitter follower, Stephanie Fisher and her son Lawrence, to the game from Sacramento. It was cool getting to spend some time with them after the game and sign a few autographs.

Stephanie told me that something popped up on her screen saying she had won as the millionth follower and initially she thought it was just a scam. But we kept sending her notes and eventually she figured out that it was real.

Stephanie and Lawrence kept telling me that they couldn’t believe that they were here in Orlando at the game, but it was a good time. I’m glad we could do something like that. I want to keep doing more of it, interacting and giving you guys a peek into my life as a person away from basketball.

So all in all, yesterday was a cool first night. It’s a long, long season, but I think it’s going to be a special one. You guys who were at the game last night, thank ya’ll for supporting us. And the rest of you out there, come see us when we come to your city. We hit the road later today for NJ, Toronto and Detroit. Ya’ll take care and I’ll holla back at ya soon.

Interacting with my fans

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

What up, worrrrrrrld!!! We’re getting ready to start our season Wednesday night against Philly, the same team we played in the first round of the playoffs last spring. The Sixers always play us tough because they like to push the tempo, but I like our chances.

I wanted to talk today not about basketball, but instead you the fans. Ya’ll mean everything to me and I enjoy interacting with you so much. I try to tell people all the time that there’s more to me than “Dwight the Basketball Player.’’ I’m just a regular dude and that’s why when I talk to people out and about I like to talk about other stuff than just basketball.

Twitter, Facebook and Superfan.com have been great because they are new ways for me to interact with the fans and let them know that it’s not just about playing basketball for me. I love being around people and I’ve tried to show some appreciation to the people who follow me as a player on Twitter, Facebook, Superfan and here on my website.

We’re actually flying my one millionth follower and her son to the season opener against Philly. I’ve also bought lunch and some copies of NBA Live 10 for some of my followers who could find me in Orlando and Atlanta during the summer, and given away free copies of NBA Live 10 on Twitter, Facebook, and Superfan to fans that could answer Dwight trivia questions. I wish I could do similar things in every city that I go to and for every fan that follows me.

I always thought the “Where’s Dwight?’’ idea was a really good one and I had a lot of fun doing it. I still hope to do it more. The couple of times that I did it, it was craaaaaazy how many people actually showed up.

Hopefully I’ll get to do that a little more with the fans around here so that I can keep on interacting with them. I’m just always looking for ways to give back to the fans and let them know that I appreciate all of their love and their support.

I like having these conversations with fans because I want to chat with them and find out what’s going on. And I really want people out there to try and get to know me for the person that I am instead of just the guy they see out on the basketball court.

Twitter, Facebook, Superfan.com and here at my website are just great avenues for me to connect with people.

So you guys keep the tweets, facebook posts, superfan posts coming, and blog comments coming. I get more enjoyment out of this than ya’ll realize. So you guys take care and I’ll see some of you down at the arena Wednesday night when he get after Philly.

Peace out.

I’m giving away more copies of NBA LIVE 10

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

Hey World. NBA Live 10 dropped yesterday. As part of the launch we gave away 100 games to fans at the NBA Store in NYC. I dropped in on the event via satellite and it was a ton of fun.

A lot of my fans in Orlando were upset that they weren’t able to get a chance to get a chance at a free copy, so I had a twitter scavenger hunt where I bought copies of NBA Live 10 for the first five fans that could find me in Orlando. That also was a lot of fun.

I realize that I have a lot of fans outside of Orlando and NYC that would also like an opportunity to win a copy of NBA Live 10. I love ALL of my fans, so for the rest of the week I’m going to start giving away games on Superfan, Facebook and Twitter. I want to be fair to everyone, so here are the rules to win on each site:

Superfan.com

I will give one copy of NBA Live 10 to my Superfan and another copy to the Superfan of NBA Live as of 8pm EST this Friday October 9th. If you haven’t been on Superfan before, it’s a website where you can compete to become the “Superfan” of your favorite things. So if you want to win a copy of Live 10, log on to both my page and NBA Live’s page and start competing to become the Superfan of both.

Facebook

I will post trivia questions on my Facebook page for fans to answer. The first fan to correctly answer the question I post will win a copy of NBA Live 10. But in order to qualify to win you MUST have your facebook profile changed to the NBA Live 10 cover. So the first person that replies correctly and has the NBA Live 10 cover as their profile picture will win a copy of the game. There will be five opportunities to win on Facebook this week, but I’m just not sure when I will post the trivia questions. So if you’re thinking of playing, you should go ahead and add your boy on facebook and change your facebook profile photo to the NBA Live 10 cover now.

Twitter

The rules for the contest on Twitter are almost the same as Facebook. I will post trivia questions and the first person to answer the question correctly will win a copy of the game. But in order to qualify for the contest you must have the NBA Live 10 cover set as your Twitter profile picture and have the #nbalive10 hashtag added to your answer. There will also be five opportunities to win on Twitter this week. Just like with Facebook, I’m not sure when I am going to be posting each trivia question, so you should go ahead and change your Twitter profile pic to the NBA Live 10 cover now.

This should be fun. Good luck y’all!
