Dwight East’s leading vote-getter for All-Star Game

Thanks to the fans’ votes, it’s looking more and more like Orlando Magic superstar center Dwight Howard is headed back to the NBA All-Star Game as a starter again.


Dwight leads all Eastern Conference players in voting after the third returns of the 2011 NBA All-Star Game balloting. Dwight is second overall among NBA players in voting, trailing only Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant. Bryant has 1,391,597 votes, while Dwight has 1,205,159 votes.


The 2011 NBA All-Star Game will be played at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Sunday, Feb. 20.


Dwight has appeared in the past four all-star games, three as the starting center for the Eastern Conference. With his 1.2 million votes, Dwight can make plans on playing in a fifth consecutive all-star game because of his sizeable lead in the voting among other centers in the East. Boston’s Shaquille O’Neal is a distant second with 506,621 votes.


LeBron James and Kevin Garnett are the leading vote-getters at forward for the East, while Dwyane Wade and Rajon Rondo are the top guards. In the West, Chris Paul and Bryant are the top guards, while Kevin Durant and Carmelo Anthony are the leaders at forward. Yao Ming, who is out for the season because of a broken bone in his foot, leads at center, but will be issued a replacement by NBA Commissioner David Stern.


Fans can continue to vote for Dwight in NBA arenas through Jan. 17. Fans can vote in a variety of ways. Fans can continue to vote online and with their wireless devices through Jan. 21.


There are several ways fans can cast their votes, including: at each NBA arena; in 20 languages on NBA.com; and through mobile phones by texting Dwight’s last name (HOWARD) to 6-9-6-2-2 (“MYNBA”) or by visiting m.nba.com on any wireless carrier.


For SMS voting, fans can vote for All-Stars any time by texting a player’s last name (HOWARD) from their mobile phones on any wireless carrier. Fans can cast one SMS vote per day, per phone number.  Message and data rates may apply. T-Mobile customers will receive an exclusive 15 percent discount code to NBAStore.com for voting via SMS voting. Upon voting, T-Mobile customers will get a bounceback message with a discount code for them to use on NBAStore.com.


Fans can vote directly on NBA.com or use their Facebook profile information to help create an NBA.com All-Access account, which enables them to complete a ballot. After submitting their All-Star selections, fans will have the ability to share them with their friends on Facebook and followers on Twitter, and encourage others to cast their ballots.
