Dwight wins East Player of the Week award for fourth time

For the fourth time this season and the 15th time in his illustrious NBA career, Orlando Magic superstar center Dwight Howard was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week on Monday.


Dwight authored a masterpiece on Sunday against the Los Angeles Lakers to lock up the illustrious award. Dwight hammered L.A. in Orlando´s 89-75 victory for 31 points, 13 rebounds and three blocked shots. He made an incredible 13 of 16 shots, including all nine of his attempts in the second half to help the Magic pull away for the win.


For the week, Dwight had four double-doubles while leading the Magic to a 3-1 record. He averaged 25.7 points and 16.7 rebounds in the four games while making a jaw-dropping 66.7 percent of his shots.


Dwight had his fifth 20-point, 20-rebound game of the season on Tuesday against the Los Angeles Clippers with 22 points and 20 boards. He followed that up with a 30-point, 17-rebound effort against the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday. Dwight was a bright spot for the Magic in Friday´s loss to New Orleans with 20 points and 17 rebounds. And he capped the week with his masterful effort against the Lakers on Sunday.


It is the third time in Dwight´s career that he´s won the NBA´s Eastern Conference Player of the Week award four times in one season. In the 2008-09 season, he won the award in January, February, March and April. Last season, Dwight won the weekly award in November, December, February and April.


Portland power forward LaMarcus Aldridge was named the Western Conference Player of the Week.
