Dwight wins Player of Week award for fifth time

No player in the NBA has won the Player of the Week award more than Orlando Magic superstar center Dwight Howard, who snagged the Eastern Conference honor on Monday for the fifth time this season.

It’s the 16th time in Dwight’s illustrious seven-year NBA career that he’s been honored as the Eastern Conference’s Player of the Week. Dwight’s five weekly awards are one more than LeBron James’ four this season.

Last week following the NBA All-Star break, Dwight led the Magic to a 2-1 record while averaging 30.3 points, 14 rebounds and 3.3 blocked shots. Even more impressive, he made 33 of 49 shots and hit 67.3 percent of his field goals for the week.

Dwight scored 40 points, hauled in 15 rebounds and blocked six shots in Orlando’s win over Oklahoma City. And on Sunday against Charlotte, he had 20 points, 10 rebounds and two blocked shots. He started the week with 31 points, 17 rebounds and three blocked shots against the Sacramento.

Dwight’s recorded 10 straight games with at least 20 points and 10 rebounds, which is the longest streak of his career. Howard has 200 20/10 games in his career and 37 this season.

Dwight is also the heavy favorite to win the NBA’s Player of the Month award for February. In 11 games of February, Dwight averaged 26.6 points, 14.8 rebounds and 2.0 blocks a game. He did so while shooting a whopping 66.7 percent from the floor.
