Orlando's Howard named to all-rookie team

Orlando Magic power forward Dwight Howard was one of three players chosen to the NBA's All-Rookie team in unanimous fashion, joining Charlotte's Emeka Okafor and Chicago's Ben Gordon.
Orlando point guard Jameer Nelson was chosen to the second-team rookie squad.
Howard, the top overall pick in last June's NBA Draft, fulfilled his promise of greatness by ranking second among rookies in rebounding (10.0), third in scoring (12.0) and blocked shots (1.66), and fourth in field-goal percentage (52 percent). Just the third player to be drafted first overall out of high school, Howard finished third in the Rookie of the Year voting behind Okafor and Gordon.
Nelson, acquired in a draft night trade with Denver, became a starter late in the season and showed the potential to become a fixture in the Magic's long-range plans. By season's end he had boosted his scoring average to 8.7 points a game. He started 21 games, scoring in double figures in 19 of those games. He averaged 15.7 points as a starter, the NBA's best among rookies.
