Now he's hoping the Magic can close the deal on landing Lewis, the former all-star who is in Orlando to meet with Magic officials.

The Magic used Howard and point guard Jameer Nelson to recruit Lewis Monday afternoon. Lewis planned to remain in Orlando on Monday night and will likely return to his home in Houston on Tuesday.

"Having a guy like Rashard around would help my game out tremendously," Howard said. "The more shooters that we can bring in here, the better. Rashard is a shooter and a scorer, and that would help our team so much. We have some young guys on this team who can play, and hopefully we can add somebody like Rashard."

Lewis, the 6-foot-10 small forward who averaged career bests in points (22.4), rebounds (6.6) and assists (2.4) last season for Seattle , traveled from his hometown of Houston on Sunday to Orlando for a meeting with Magic general manager Otis Smith and assistant general manager Dave Twardzik.
